Ti4600 or 9700pro
I know there is a big price difference between the two cards but which one should I get if I only play games?

I would go with a 9700 non-Pro, save yourself money and still get a better card than the Ti4600.

I would go with the 9700 or 9500. Both will last longer because of "newer technologies" built into it. Or the GF FX when it comes out. I play games alot and would not consider anything other than these 3 cards. Pick the one that suits your price range.

I'd go with th 9700, but you may want to wait for the FX for two reasons, one is that you will have soemthing to compare the 9700 to, and the other is that if you still want the 9700 it will be cheaper.
Also, dont rul out the Ti4200, its only 100 bucks, and a very fast card, much better buy than 4600

Strictly between those two cards? The 9700 Pro. 'Nuff said.

I would go with the 9500 pro, a better card than the 4600, and only 183$ with shipping. Make sure it is a PRO

Which new board is this of yours, wolfie?
I'm interested in hearing the results of your "experiment" since I'm strongly considering getting a 9700. TIA

This is quite interesing. I would have thought that the GF4's would have the biggest crowd supporting them.

Not anymore.
Unless until they provide full support for DX9. |

He asked which one to get only for gaming; the 9700 Pro is the best performer out there right now.

True, but why not save some money and get the second best card out there? The non-Pro Radeon is $40 cheaper compared to the cheapest Pro card. A little bit of overclocking goodness and your at Pro speeds.

If you tight on money get the Ti4200 by gainward or the ti4600 which is about $100 more than the 4200 but cheaper than the 9700. As for what was said about directx9 support, I wouldn't go by that. To my knowledge the realse date of directx9 is still unanounced, unless I missed a news update Microsoft hasn't even acknowledge the fact that it's comming out anytime soon. They just cameout w/directx 8.2 recently. All this current games don't even take full advantage of directx8. If your concerned about agp 8x get the ti4200 w/8x agp. 8x agp isn't even utilized yet. I think the ti4200 and ti4600 still have a good yr left or more until they're obsolete. Again its your money and your decision. Good Luck! lol

Flip a coin.
No really, because this is really just an issue of apples versus oranges. I'm a die hard nvidia fan and I have never had an ounce of trouble out of a nvidia card, however most radeon's I've worked with have had weird problems. In the end, I would wait for the fx. Too bad, this ti4600 is paid for ![]() P.S. I love this card.

If you're going to make a PURCHASE decision, then your budget must play a vital role, right?
If there's no limit to the money you spend, then get the 9700PRO - I'd say. (Clock- 325/620 256Bit DDR ) If you're trying to save money, I vote for the Ti4600. (Clock- 300/650 128Bit DDR ) I love mine from Gainward. good luck,

I have a Ti4200 and it works fine for me.
![]() Since most game don't even take advantage of DX8, why worry about supporting DX9? Won't be at least another year before it comes out since 8.2 did just come out a little while ago? Also, the benchmarks between the Ti4200 and Ti4600 were not that different, although the Ti4600 was slightly higher. |
