do I need an Audigy?
I built a new computer (P4 2.4, 512mb ddr333, GF4 ti4600) I moved my SB live 5.1 from my old computer to my new computer and everything is working fine. The sound from all the games I've played sounded great but I am wondering if I am missing anything by not having an Audigy soundcard? I know the Audigy supports EAX advanced HD vs. EAX 2.0 from the SB live. My question is there very many games utilizing EAX HD? I've read a number of articles that state most games just use Direct sound and very few programmers are going to the extra effort of writing the extra EAX code. Anyone out there used to have a live and switched to Audigy and noticed a big difference? I have Cambridge FPS2000 4.1 digital speakers connected to the digital output of my SB live 5.1. Does the Audigy support digital speakers?

Yes the Audigy supports digital speakers, like the Live does.
Well, I switched from SB Live! Player to Audigy (the reason was just to get the firewire port) and I couldn't hear a difference. But well, I'm using standard monitor-built-in speakers. A friend of mine had the SB Live! 5.1 and Cambridge 5.1 setup, and with his new built he got an Audigy. He told me that the difference is noticeable, you definitely notice that there is a new sound chip on the Audigy. RJ

You are missing a FireWire port.
I'm getting the Audigy 2 for my new PC.

EAX is terrific, and I love my Audigy. Go for it if you have the cash, or get the Audigy2.

I made the switch and noticed a difference in gameplay. I'm using headphones and it was easy to hear the difference that way.
Good Luck,

yes, well theres different reasons for going for a Audigy. IF you are into music then you should get an audigy because the sound quality transfer is fantastic. not only that, but as other people pointed out, the advanced HD when utilized is a force to be reckoned with and will leave you speechless if youre fortunate enough to own a surround sound setup, or even better a surround sound Klipsch setup. sadly enough, i lack the cash for that setup.

Haven't you heard? Logitech is Speaker King, what with dethroning the Klipsch 5.1's with the Z-680's!
Sadly, they run around $400, which I do not have at the moment.
