Seroius graphics problem

hi,

I ve just built my first pc, its been running fine for ages, ive played loads of games on it, but suddenly when i try to play Halflife or homeworld the pc stays on but the montior goes blank!

I have played other games on it and these work fine!

Any ideas??

Have you tried reinstalling the games?

Have you run 3DMark 2001SE?

Both games are from Sierra, so it could be some files are corrupted most likely.

i have tried reinstalling both the games,
what is 3dmark?

www.futuremark.com It is a 3D benchmarking tool that is also useful for diagnosing 3D related problems; if that crashes, it's your system. Beware, it's a 50-60MB download.

Im still having a problem, i think it is something to do with direct draw because i checked the directx settings and when i choose to test for direct draw it just goes black again, any ideas???

Get the latest version of DirectX, I believe it is version 8.2.

Update your video card drivers then reinstall DirectX.

This is a good idea. In fact, HL runs better on OpenGL than on D3D.
