Unhappy Video Capturing Problem MyViVo

Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone here has faced the following problem:

I am trying to capture some video from my camcorder using my Leadtek Winfast 4200 card. The picture looks fine during preview and while recording. The problem is when I stop recording and play it back in the PC, there is a huge white horizontal band in the middle of the picture blocking most of it (see gif below). I can only see the top and bottom part. I dont know what the issue could be.

I dont have this problem recording other video inputs, such as VCR, or DSS. I am thinking it could be a problem with the camera itself while transferring the video, sound is ok. I have tried different capture formats (MPEG-1,2, windows video, AVI, etc.. same problem).

Thanks

Hi karlos_luis

Is this an Analog or DV camera? When recording, I take it you are using the very same composite jack on the vid card?

Does the camera work / does the picture look OK if you plug the camera into the VCR and play the tape on the TV?

The camera has regular RCA A/V connectors as well as S-Video. They can be configured for Input or Output. Of course, in this case I have them as Output. I have tried both RCA and S-Video, same result. These are connected to the vid card input jack (RCA and S-video).

TwoRails
case 1: camera output connected to TV Input: perfect playback. no problems. good picture.

case 2: camera output connected to VCR input for recording. The white band does not show up but the quality of the picture is very bad even while recording. This is why I ended up trying my PC's video card.

I hope I answered your questions.

Hi BigCat

The only thing I can think of right now is that the camera is setup to output European "PAL" format inside of American "NTSC-M" (or the other way 'round depending on your location).

Check your owner's manual to see how to change this setting.

(also, but I highly doubt it, it could be some kind of copywrite tape you are trying to play... but this is footage you actually shot with the same camera, right?)

HTH

Thanks TwoRails. I am clueless too. My location is US and I bought the camera here. Yes, the manual says it is for NTSC-M systems. And yes, these are personal videos I shot with the same camera. I guess I'll need to borrow another cam from somebody and try it to see what happens. Thanks again.

Well, you should check it. If it's digital you better connect it via firewire can just copy the video in its original quality to hard drive.
I have no idea either why your problem happens, though.
