SoF 2 (or my new build sux!)

I want to ask all the Soldier of Fortune 2 players, what kind of machines did you play this game on?

I just built a P4 @ 2.4 GHz, 256 MB in RAM DDR, 80 GB 7200 rmp Barracuda HD, GeForce 3 Ti200 with 64 MB in RAM, Audigy 2 (the game came with this sound card, btw) and Windows XP Pro.

And the game lags and jags to the point of unplayableness.

Any suggestions. Even dropping the detail levels didn't help.

TIA for your input.

I play SOF2 on:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+, MSI Motherboard with the VIA KT333 Chipset, GF4 MX 440, Sound Blaster Live, 80GB IBM ATA 100 Hard Drive, 16X DVD, 256MB of DDR PC2100 RAM(CRUCIAL), and ofcourse Windows 2000 Professional(Although I played SOF2 on WIN98SE. Havent tried it on WIN2K yet)

Game runs fine..But I need a better Video Card.

Have the demo on a duron1300 with same vid card as yours, 128megs ddr on a via **** oops chipset, and a 7200rpm drive. The demo runs great at 800x600. This on xp pro, 3082 driver.

ya but look at the P4, it has 256 Ram w/ Gforce4

the celeron has radeon 9000 w/ 512 ram

that might make a difference

The Video Card makes a big difference..not the system RAM..because you are only using the required RAM with the game not all 512MB of it.

I can run Kazaalite, AIM, ICQ, and play UT2003..And I still havent used all of my system RAM(256MB).

and I'm not joking, this is dead serious, same thing with the new NFS2 the 1400 cel with Radeon 9000 plays much smoother (perfect) than the P4 with GFS4 4200ti.

Then this makes me feel that the 845 chipset or something peculiar to the mobo is the cause.

Nuke, not sure about Casey's situation, but I thought I heard glc say the Win 2000 isn't so good with games. Could that be it?

Edit:
I just saw that you said XP Pro, nevermind

Device manager/ide controller/primary ide/advanced settings, look for dma status, you do not want to see pio.

As I recall you also can/should add the Intel application accelerator software, a ide patch of some type from Intel that may help in this case.

Well, I managed to make it run smoothly by dropping the detail to "medium". It doesn't look too bad but the letters are very hard to make out.

*sniff* I need a better VC.
