Gaming Mags

What's the best out there? I think PC Gamer is the only survivor but their humor gets on my nerves.

PC Accelerator was THE best gaming magazine that ever existed. They were also PCX for awhile. Totally irreverent. Completely hilarious. Dead on when it came to rating games and tactics. The only thing they ever did that I disagreed with was giving Game of the Year to QIIIA in 99. : /

I was probably the only girl to subscribe to them but I loved it. Anyone remember it? Anything like it out there?

Well, im subscribed to PC Gamer, and alot of editors there brought you PCXL too... The editor-in-chief came from PCXL. I like PCGamer, and most of the reviews i agree with (assuming I get a chance to play the game). I think alot of the humor is funny, but sometimes it gets borderline stupid. Maximum PC Is a pretty good magazine too, with plenty of tips and tricks. They also released a how-to issue recently, so you might want to check them out.

MaximumPC isn't a 'gaming mag', but it's the only rag I read.

I just pull out my old copies of PCXL when I want to read a good gaming magazine. : / It's kinda cool in a retro kinda way to see the things that they were taking a look at that were on the release horizon and what has become of those games since release.

I traded the article on Sins secret level for EQ plat. ::nodnodnods:: Girlie ranger's gotta make a living somehow...

I subscribe to GamePro and EGM, what does everyone think of the PC version of EGM, I forget what it's called?

You can try these guys:http://www.cgonline.com/
Since they're on the web you can read a few reviews and decide if they're worth the cash.

I subscribe to PCGamer .
I can live with the humor, most of the time ( I knew what it was when I sent them the check ), but some of the ads are another matter.
The Jan. 2003 issue has an ad for a Guarana drink that explains, with nothing else needed, why so few women read gaming mags.l

I've always liked PCG and never buy a game they rate below 70%. But I agree with the ads thing, some ads are very disturbing, I remember an ad for a game that was called "Of Light and Darkness" if I remember correctly, it was disgusting! Even a reader complained about it, but the staff responded in a way I didn't like: "If you don't like it then don't look at it". C'mon! What a childish response.

The only game magazine I occasionally read is the German magazine ”Gamestar”. I used to read a lot of different ones but who needs them when you have the Internet.

Oh! I remember Of Light and Darkness! Very detailed background storyline which was great! Point and click games make me nuts, though. Great concept I'd love to see in a new "dress," so to speak.

I subscribed to PC Gamer for several years. The included CD's were always useful.

Same with the MaxPC CDs; I got to play the 007: Nightfire Demo, which was a 100+Mb file, if I remember correctly, because it was on the CD. Can you imagine downloading a 100+MB file on 28.8?

I spent 3 afternoons and evenings downloading the Half-Life patch in the hopes of playing on the web...

I was never able to log onto any server!

That stinks. You're on dial-up, too? Once, I spent a whole day downloading the Ghost Recon Demo, and when it finished, all that came up was a DOS box for about 1/2 a second, then nothing. All that time wasted(not to mention the phone bill!)!

I like PCGamer, but lately things have been going screwy. First, i never got the December 2002 issue. The holiday issue I get comes with a CD (as it should). But then I get the January 2003 issue, no cd, and a slip that says we have to pay, even though we gave them the credit card # on the website. Grr..

Go here:http://www.pcgamer.com/
Click on Customer Service and straighten them out.
Since it's the start of the weekend they'll probably get back to you on Monday or Tuesday.
This actually works with them.
