How about that!

NewEgg is offering the Matrox Parhelia in a 256MB configuration. The very first 256MB card I've heard of. Too bad it has to be the Parhelia.

Yes, and $599US. Is triple-monitor support really worth that much?

My dealer carries the 128 version at 540 bucks!

They can use it to decorate their xmas tree because I ain't paying that for a VC.

What would you need 3 monitors for? Aren't 2 enough?

Perhaps he's a fligh sim jock that wants the cockpit on monitor 1, the flyby in monitor 2 and the instrument panel or another view on monitor 3?

1 AGP card with dual moniter support + an old PCI card. Might not be the best setup for gaming, but then again the Matrox aint a champ in that area.

Then just for the heck of it, why not get a full, realistic flight simulator system; you know, the ones the rock back and forth. I heard they also come with a Microsoft Co-Pilot (TM)

Sure, what's $5,000 more when you've already spent $600?

I think Matrox marketed it as the the next "big thing" in gaming, though. Last I saw it couldn't even compete with a Radeon 8500. Maybe with driver revisions its doing better now.

I doubt it. It's clocked so low that it just can't compete.

Thats the thing, it has all these killer features. Surround gaming, great AA and picture quality, DX9 support. The specs even look good (http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?im...hfMV8zX2wuZ2lm). All these previews were singing its praises, and expected it to rock the benchmarks. Then they finally got they're hands on the card and it just didn't have the power to compete in benchmarks, coupled with a high price, just doesn't make a winner.

I wonder how Matrox manages to stay in today's video cards biz.
