3D Mark SE2001/Direct X 8.1 Problem
I just tried to run my 3d mark bench mark and got this error. "3d Mark SE 2001 not able to detect required minimum features in 3d accelerator. Please insure DX installations are working properly and proper drivers are installed."
It then tried to run and I got this error: "3D Marke Se 2002 caused an invalid page fault in module RLMFC.dll" So I went to DX Diag and tested everything. It all worked but the Direct 3d. I got this: Direct 3D test Results: Failure step 5(get device caps):HRESULT = 0x8876086a (3D not Available). I'm using the Det. Drivers 29.42 and sys. is in sig. Also this all worked before I move everything to a new case. Could something have benn messed up in me doing this? I'm going to try some games and see if I have any problems there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tony |

I found this doing a google search and it worked. Thought I'd post it incase anyone else has the problem in the future.
": : For all of you with the problem of: Failure at step 5 (GetDeviceCaps): HRESULT = 0x8876086a (3D not available)Just disable the direct3D, exit the dxdiag, then go in there again and enable again. It worked for me, good luck! : Thanks for the recommendation. I tried running 3Dmark2001SE and got a start up error. The FAQ mentioned testing dxdiag.exe and I went through Direct7 test fine, but it gave me the same error that started this thread for Direct 8. for those running a OS other than XP it was recommended to reinstall, but XP's only option seems to be to reinstall the whole OS, something I don't want to do. I tried your hint and now it passes through correctly. I came across it after doing a google search on the error with the search line of "GetDeviceCaps + direct3d". The trick seemd to work. I wanted to make sure others know to try this and am adding this to hopefully help it get picked up by the search engines. : Failure at step 5 (GetDeviceCaps): HRESULT = 0x8876086a (3D not available) : Thanks again for teh advice. This worked for me as well. I noticed that when I clicked the Disable button, the dialog said that this will *Enable* the direct 3D functions (not disable them). Still, worked for me. Thanks." This last part happend for me, I then tried the tests and 3d Mark SE and they worked. Tony |

No problem. It's like direct x got confused and thought Direct 3D was enabled when it really wasn't, hence the button still saying it was enabled. Had me confused and reallt mad for a while.
