DX8 and video cards

What are the VCs that have native and full support for DirectX 8+?

TIA

Henry,
Your best bet is to check the documantation on your video card. It will tell you which Direct X version it supports.

Starting with the first Radeons and the GeForce2 all later cards from NVidia and ATI had 8x support. In fact it was one of the selling points for the original radeons.
The G3s and on up and the radeon 8500 have the 8+ support but the 7500 doesn't and neither does the Geforce MX line, no pixel or vertex shaders in those cards.
Watch out for the Radeon 7000 if you do any gaming. It's a great card for office apps, web sufing and a little DVD viewing but it's not intended for gaming.

So my GF3 Ti200 supports fully DX8+... Hmm.. as I suspected.

Then why can't I run SoF2 at the highest detail in my P4??

Is it because my VC has only 64MB in VRAM?

I've been wondering if putting in 512MB of 3500 CL2 Corsair RAM would help.

If you really wanted to get technical the GeForce cards don't FULLY support DX 8.1. They only have Pixel Shader version 1.3 while Radeons have version 1.4. If you really wanted to, you could read pages and pages of discussion on it between nvidia and ati fanatics, erhm, fans i mean.

Though this is getting into the realm of "lolz i've got 12 more 3dMark pointz than you, im more suppa l337 than j00 ever be f00l". Meaning it doesn't really matter.

As for your problem, I don't think it the rest of your system, and adding some super expensive ram wont help unless your going to overclock (the FSB anyways) that thing to brink of meltdown. Though maybe try overclocking your card some, maybe that will help play it a little more smoothly in higher detail.

Phantom game requirements.
NOLF, the first one, had something like this: If you met all the recommended levels for the game you still couldn't max it out.
That required 250MHz more than the recommended CPU power and double the recommended ram. The recommended video card remained at 32mb though. This info wasn't in the game manual but tucked away in the "read-me" file on the game disk along with some info on textures which meant that the video card should be ddr and have t&l.
My guess is that the game requires a Gf4 ( or at least a Ti500) for you to crank the video but will do a good job with the Gf3.
I've heard people call this the reward for gamers with high-end systems and they have a point.
On the other hand it is frustrating to the rest of us.
When do you get the new card?
