Driver for Asus card

I've got the Asus V8420 Geforce 4 Ti4200, using what I've been told is a dated driver. I've got the v29.40a from Asus's site. Which should I be using? I think I tried the 40.72 from Nvidia's site once and practically turned my computer into an Atari.

I always use those provided directly by nVidia in its web site. Currently running the 41.09.

What do you mean your PC is like an Atari? Is it very slow now?

After I reformatted and switched to XP I tried the 40.72 driver and it killed the performance in games, so I went back to the 29.40a from Asus. Now I'm trying to find one that'll pick the card up a little more.

I would try a 40.xx series. You probably aren't using your card to full potential as it is. Just try a version a few steps below the one you tryed if you're wary. I really couldn't tell you the absolute best version since they're seems to always be a new beta coming out everyweek.

I like the 40.41's for performance.

I have exactly like your card, it works great with the latest drivers from nVidia and XP.

I am running a 4200 with 3082 and dx9. Very fast. Was running 4201 with dx9 but it looked bad in dx7 games. The dx8 games were ok. I mean real bad in dx7. I saw a benchmark test done on a similar system to mine, with dx8 and 9, and 29xx thru 4201 on some German site. The 3082 was the fps champ in most every game. I know the image quality in dx7 games is far better with 3082 than 4xxx, so the 3082 will be staying from now on. I lost about 700 3dmarks but who cares? I don't play 3dmark, but I do tribes.
