I/O Magic Shady?
Kind of a cross-post, see "freezing up caused by overheating?" in Assembly/overclocking....
I'm having some serious display problems after a recent re-build of my computer thanks to a power surge and had everything running without problems for about two weeks. Now I get a garbled screen once in a while. The screen gets tons of tiny vertical lines and dots, sometimes you can work underneath it all for a few seconds before it locks up and sometimes it completely locks up the system right away. I've tried re-installing Win2K, I've checked to make sure the CPU isn't burning up, Checked for viruses, tried new RAM (Not ln the Video card though), and so far nothing has gotten rid of this intermittent problem. I didn't replace the Vid Card after the power surge because it had been working OK. I DID replace the PSU, the Motherboard, and the HDD. Anyway, I'm thinking I need a new video card but don't want to spend much because I'm not a huge game player. I was looking at a few Geforce 2 cards from I/O Magic, but I've seen some poor reviews on the circuit city website. I'd like to hear some opinions on their products.....I know there are much better products but right now I'm looking for something cheap and decent that will get the machine running again. The machine currently has a TNT2 Vanta in it, so a Geforce2 Would actually be an upgrade for it. (Actually, anything that works would be an upgrade!) Thanks in advance for any help! |

I/O Magic? Don't they make CD-RWs too? I would stick with a known maufacturer: Gainward, Asus, Leadtek, etc.

I got the I/O magic, they do make CD-RW drives too. I had heard about some compatibility issues, but it worked fine on my machine without any problems.

Let us know about the reliability of the card in the long-run. Also, I meant 'manufacturer', not 'maufacturer'.

I/O Magic doesn't manufacture anything - they are just a reboxer. Some of their stuff is quality, some is total crap.

You just don't know till you find out who really made it or run the FCC number.

Well, whoever made it, it hasn't burned up and it hasn't caused any problems so far. One thing for sure though, stay away from Deer PSU's, that's what started the whole mess and led to frying itself, my MB, Hard drive, and evidently video card.
