XBOX/router problems

I want to play games on the network with XBOX live, it works fine if i connect my XBOX directly to my cable modem, but when i go thru my router (Linksys BEFW11s4) it still works but it's cutting out a lot, very frustrating when you're in the middle of a Moto GP race! I can't just use the modem 'cause the roomie needs to use the internet as well. Is there a fix??

Have you tried putting the Xbox in the router's DMZ?

Try getting the latest firmware for the router. Apparently it adds UPnP support which microsoft lists as a requirement for XBL compatible routers. hth

Get that firmware upgrade! Trust me, works well. I had chopp problems with my cable modem and router, once I got the firmware upgrade, it was good as gold.

Sorry guys i asked a question and then had to go away for a few days... So i just downloaded the new firware but couldn't find info on the lynksys website as to how to upgrade it? Is there a special procedure?
And how would i put my XBOX into DMZ?

HELP!!
i tried upgrading the firmware and now the DIAG led is blinking red and nothing works anymore... how do i reset everything?

Can you still access the router via IP address from your browser? If you can, verify you have the correct firmware and try the update again. You may have to go back to an older firmware version. If you cant access this way you will need to find instruction on how to telnet into the router and fix it that way.

I screwed up my router once, and the only way to fix it was to connect through the serial port (couldn't connect through IP) and reset everything by uploading the firmware.

I tried to assign a static ip but it wouldn't let me connect to the router. if anyone has more info about how to telnet to the router and reset everything please tell me

I don't know if the 11S4 has one, but look for a little reset button - it may be in a small hole that you need to use a toothpick to get at - and unplug the router for a minute. Hold the reset button down and plug the router back in - and keep the reset button depressed for about 15 seconds. This *should* reset the router to factory defaults if the firmware is not fried.

it has a reset button but it has no effect no matter how long i hold it or when i hold it before powering on.

Reviving a "dead" Linky
If you follow this procedure, you should be able to successfully load firmware into your router, even if you think you've tried everything. Follow the steps exactly and don't skip any!

To reload the firmware when an upload fails or when the red error light is blinking, do the following:

1) Set a static IP Address on the Windows PC as following:

IP Address: 192.168.1.50
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

2) Make sure that you can execute the DOS command: "PING 192.168.1.1".

3) Make sure that the file name of the firmware code, given to TFTP.EXE, is "code.bin". RENAME the firmware file if you have to.

4) Try passwords in this order:

First: Try a blank password,
Second: Try "admin" (don't enter the quotes)
Third: The password you assigned previously

5) After successfully uploading the firmware, press the Reset button to clear memory and select default settings.

6) Reconfigure the LinkSys as required to support your Broadband environment.

Ok, The linksys firmware is loaded via telnet over ethernet, so hopefully this will work. Again i say, make sure you have the correct firmware, or try an older version.

I now have the latest firmware and a working router. I have no clue what happened the first time i tried to upgrade, it just crashed during transfer. Now let's see how this will help my XBOX connection......

Oh yea and GLC, i'm still curious about the DMZ thing..? Do you mean the UPLINK port on my router?

No, the DMZ is in Advanced - it puts the machine with the IP address you specify in front of the firewall. Read the help file.

ok i tried that, assigned my ip to DMZ but still having network problems, even with the latest firmware. The only real fix so far seems to be bypassing the router completely.
