An nforce2 mobo using the onboard sound, the fastest xp cpu u can afford, 2x256 ddr same brand/specs, your agp card, a 350 watt or better brand name psu, a good case, and a fat 7200rpm ata100/133 drive. I like the wd400bb, cheap and fast.
Xp should be the target os.
The nforce series is an xbox on steroids. Especialy with a gf4ti4200 with 128 megs ram.
Experiment with Linux on the remains of the old one.

Hi easyco16,

The nForce2 onboard sound is Audigy quality, you can read about it in this review. I'd save the money and use the onboard sound.

The onboard sound is nice. I'd try it out first if I were you. You can always add a seperate sound card later, though I don't think you'll need to

You'll be upgrading the processor too, no? So what's wrong with an AMD?
