Hello all. I recently put together a machine for the first time and it has been running great. Except for one thing, I get lock ups within 10 seconds to 1 minute of playing. The games I play are Everquest and Warcraft III. Both of them have the same problem, I will be playing, and next thing you know, I crash to a black screen that I can't CTRL-ALT-DEL out of so I have to hit the reset button. Everyonce and a while, it will crash straight to reboot, but that is not often.
The only success I have had is disabling my sound card (in device manager) and even then with that, I still crash after about 30-45 minutes. My system is as follows: ASUS A7N266-VM Motherboard Athlon 1700XP Processor 512 MB Kingston DDR 80 GB Maxwell HD with 8 MB Cache Gainward GeForce 4 TI4200 w/128 MB Video Ram I am using the built in sound card that came with the ASUS A7N266-VM motherboard. I installed an extra fan, so all together, I have 3 fans (one of them being on the powersupply) I am using a ENLIGHT Model# EN-72500AZ (BEIGE) ATX MID-TOWER CASE w/ 300Watt POWER SUPPLY I do not experience any lockups at all other then when I play these two games (unfortunatly, I bought this computer just to play these two games). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am not the smartest with computers, but I am not that bad. This is my first build so I am definetly not an expert. |

How are your CPU and System Tempers are doing?
You may need to get a bigger Power Supply for a load that you are doing. Atleast a 350 watt Quality Power Supply. |

No, that 300w from Enlight should be fine. I believe I have heard of people running systems with 2-3 HDs, 2-4 optical drives, a floppy drive, a high end CPU, as well as a high end video card on a quality 300w PSU. The Enlight PSU should be fine. Try the newest detonator drivers from nVidia. I had better luck with the 40.72 than the 41.09. nVidia has older driver versions on their site. If the 41.09 doesn't work try the 40.72. If neither of those work, something like the 28.32 or 30.82 (I forget the second set of numbers for both, but the first two numbers should be sufficient) might work.

Looks like it may have fixxed it. I thought I upgraded the drivers before but it turns out that I was installing the new drivers incorrectly. I will let you all know if I have any problems but thank you so much for the quick help
