25 to 30 is certainly playable, but I like 100+.

I think most people's eyes cannot interpret more than 60-70 FPS, I think. It might be up to 85, but above that it is pointless. You will never notice the difference between 90 FPS and 10,000 FPS. I guess the 10,000 FPS will give you quite a bit of room to tack on antialiasing and anisotropic filtering samples... but realistically 60 FPS is considered minimum on "good" framerates.

If it clears 30 it's certainly playable but to look really good you want something at 60 or better.
I can't find it now but someone posted a link to an article that explained why in detail. It also made the point that while 60 fps is necessary it's not sufficient. The guys who tell you they prefer 100 to 60 are right but, apparently, they needn't go quite so far. 72 fps seems to be the sweet spot. If someone finds that post and the link I'd really appreciate it. I should have printed the whole thing out when I first saw it. |

![]() I, also, don't think the eye can see those fantastic rate you hear about, just like you don't notice a differenct in going from one CPU to another that is only just a little faster. I don't believe the human eye can tell the difference between 60 and 70 fps, for example. And, I still don't understand how frame rates can be faster than your refresh rate, anyway. I mean how do you get 120 fps on a 60 Hz refresh? I seems like you'd loose every other frame, and you don't notice it. ![]() TwoRails |
