last minute advice invidia-vs-ati
Will be buying a new graphics card to replace my Geforce II Ti. I also want to use my computer as a Tivo system. It looks like I can get a TI4200 and a TV Wonder card for the same or a little less than an All in Wonder 8500 or better from ATI.
I play games, watch tv, dvd's, surf the web, manipulate still photos, and dabble in web creation. My system consists of 512 megs of ram, dvd drive, cdrw, Athlon 1700+, duel IBM Deskstar 40 gigs, onboard sound, cable internet, and Windows xp. Speed is important, but really the best combo with overall picture and stability is what I want. Also, I hate when games wont play. Buying next week and still undecided |

It really depends upon your budget, ATI is great for 2d work like web creation and photo. However, nvidia does well with games.

I wouldn't think that you could get the nVid and the ATI card for less than the AIW8500DV, unless it's the 128Mb 8500 you're talking about. Personally, I would go with the DV version. I still think 128Mb cards are way overkill.
I have the 8500DV and personally, I think it plays the latest and greatest games quite well.

If you want every thing in one card then i'd go with the ALL-IN-WONDER® 9700 but its not cheap.
http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/aiw9700pro/index.html If you just want to add a tv card thern id get the ATI TV WONDER. this is only a tv card and not a graphic card. http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/tvwonder/index.html Also if your bugget is tight then get the ALL-IN-WONDER® RADEON™ 8500... or the ALL-IN-WONDER® RADEON™ 8500DV |

You should read through this thread first if you're going to use that card in a TIVO system.

It sounds like the GF3/TV Wonder combo may not be the way to go..... That kind of narrows it down for me. Im just so hesitant to go with an ATI graphics card. Invidia has become the standard, almost everyone I know would go with only GeForce cards.

NVidia has released cards comparable to the All In Wonder series and I think the latest one got decent reviews.
I'm sure a web search would turn it up. |

What do you mean comparable to the All in Wonder?

I mean they do the same things.
NVidia has made several attempts at their own AIW cards and this last was the first one that got decent reviews. |

With the things you want to do I think the ATI series would be best for you. NVidia tends to be more for high speed game freakheads like me.
