Fire GL4 vs Quadro 900 XGL

i know what you're thinking--not another ATI vs Nvidia post!!!

but i've narrowed it down finally to these two cards:

........ATI Fire GL 4

........PNY Quadro 900 XGL

for 3d modeling, and occassional gaming.

does anyone have experience with any modelling in 3d studio max or maya, and can recommend one video card over the other?

Thanks again.

I like the Quadra cards better myself. They are more compatible with more 3D software. A good Quadra is more expensive than the Fire cards.

MaximumPC did a showdown on Professional video cards a few months ago and the 900GXL came out on top. It performed the best in their Lightwave/Maya benchmarks. I havnet had any personal experience but I would grab the Quadro. I haven't heard anything but praises for them.

Thanks for the replies,

i, myself haven't heard anything bad about the Quadro cards, but have heard some negative opinions about ATI in general.

First a question about PNY: Do they make quality video cards? I remember reading somwhere on this forum that some people stayed away from them-- i can't exactly remember why. But that's the only hesitation i have about getting the PNY Quadro. What do you guys think?

Tuf... Are you still working on that Dual Xeon???

I've never seen a problem with PNY video cards - their GF4's are made by MSI. Now, PNY ram is a different story..........

The Quadra cards by PNY work well and they are usually priced well compared to the competition.

3d - My dual Xeon is up and running! I have been really busy the last couple of weeks so all I have on it is XP Pro and Acrobat. As soon as I get all of my other licenses in order I hope to be using it as my main machine in the next week or so.
