Game Pings

I have UT, Quake 3, and Half-Life. I play Half-life mods a lot and my ping is really low like 20-50. In UT and Quake 3, I get like 120+. I was wondering if there's anything wrong with UT and Q3 and can I fix it, or are pings just basically on different?

your ping depends on who you are connecting to. server, another player, ect.

so it the server is your nextdoor neibghor then generally your ping will be better then if it is across the country.

HTH

basicly there is nothing that you can do to get your ping lower. dont worry about it and just play the game.

is there a reason why the ping to every server for those two games is much, much higher than half-life?

Half life is older So I would think it is more optimized for a 56k so the faster speed cable connections are just more fast. Then UT since its optimized for something faster then 56k most likly

When I used to play counterstrike my ping was very low like your mods of half life. However, also once you get into big, multiplaying games like UT - you have larger games with better graphics/hardware requirements. Some of the half life mods didn't seem to have as many people connected to one server at the same time.

Check your MaxClientRate in each game. Assuming you have broadband they should all be set to 10kish (although most servers run from 7 to 8k).

If that setting is set to 56k, you'll play like crap .

how do I check that? through a console command? if so, I have no idea what any of the commands for UT and Quake are.
