On-Board MX - 200 Blacks Out

I used the on-board video of my ASUS A7N266-VM. It's a GF2 MX - 200 and I shared 32MB of the system's total 256MB memory to it. When I play Battle Realms [and only in this game], with default settings, it "blacks out" after a while. I don't get any display on the monitor. What could the problem be?

Hi cliffboy,

Make sure you have the latest video drivers, monitor drivers, and any patches for the game.

Check with the game "readme" for any potential problems with your mobo and chipset.

Try changing reducing the refresh rate of you monitor and colour
depth.

Make sure that you are using a powerful enough power supply.

What PSU do you have - 300 watt?

To eliminate an overheating issue (although I doubt this is the problem, as it is only happening in one game), open the computer case, direct a table fan into the case, and run the game.

If your system or monitor no longer goes blank, freezes, or locks up, then it's an overheating issue.

It may just be the onboard video, just can't support this game.

HTH

Thanks, Mike. I do have a 300W power supply. But I guess, it's the on-board video, as you have noted, which can't support the game. I have used the latest patches for the games and even my video drivers are the latest. Other 3-D Games like Medal of Honor and Jedi Knight work well without problems... no freezes or lock-ups actually. It's just that, it goes blank in that game [I've uninstalled it though]. My temps are stuck at 41 to 42 degrees C in the BIOS. In other programs, it runs without a glitch.

The onboard video meets the system requirements for that game - have you tried reinstalling DirectX?

I've updated the drivers and reduced to refresh rate to 75 Hz from 85 Hz. Though, I have already uninstalled the game. Whatever, a separate AGP card is always better than on-board video. I guess, that is the experience I have learned from this. Thanks, Mike.

I didn't reinstall Direct X, GLC. Thanks for the advice.
