Online Gaming

Can you game online with two computers in the same room, using a router and and cable modem? If so how?

I would like to game between the two machines and using the same two machines game online with others.

TIA

You can game between two machines, depending on the game.
You can game online with both, depending on the game.

Now that's out of the way...
Some games allow networked gaming, some do not.
Some game sites allow multiple users with the same IP, some do not.
What game, what site?

You can play online the same game on the same lan if you each have a unique CD-key (most of the time) depending on which game you're playing. LAN play generally doesn't matter from my experiences.

the game he is using now is Ghost Recon. He wants to play form his 2 computers against on-line opponents. Also would like to play just the 2 of them.
As it is right right now one computer gets bumped off when playing on line.
Does IP addresses come into play here? Even if you don't host?

If he is using 1 copy, he may only be able to host as a LAN game, but others may join his server via IP adress, although the server wont be advertised.

He is not trying to host. He just wants to game, but can't get both computers to stay logged on.

Any suggestions?

You probably have an IP issue - to get both computers on line you may need to purchase a second IP address from your ISP and bypass the router.

I was afraid of that. Could I put a hub in there and still use the router? I'm thinking, NO. I wouldn't be able to pull to addresses would?

Nope. No matter what hardware you have, to get both computers online to play, you need two IP's.

Any setup with multiple IP's, like I've already explained.
easyco16, if you're going to post an answer like that, please explain HOW!

Two constant UDP streams (more depending on the game, some use multiples) are just too much for one cable/dsl router to process at the same time.

Even if you managed to both connect to a game, the ping times would be in the 500ms to 750ms range.
