get a way better graphics card
and if you want to run it super smooth, upgrade a LOT

look at my specs below, i had an ATi 9000 Pro in and it was even worse than my gf2 PCI. And i have to run in 0 Draw distance at 640x480x16, it needs a powerful gfx card

GTA3 has to be the most resource greedy game I have

GTA3 has to be the worst console to PC port I have ever seen. I get slowdowns and weird glitches (guy jumps forward and dies when running down a hill) all the time, and I have a Gf4 ti4600 and an XP 2100+. There's really nothing you can do about it except try the FPS patch which removes rain and litter.

mech_man_skiflyswim, The graphics card is plenty to run the game, Im guessing the small amount of system RAM is the problem. I would try upgrading the RAM in your system. GTA3 can eat up a lot of RAM. Adding a stick of 256 would benefit performance very much. PC133 RAM is very cheap, heres a stick at Newegg for $32: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ston+256+SDRAM

I personally like gta3 on ps2 way better, I could never deal with the little direction button's on the keyboard... way to small

Yuk. I can't play it on a PS2. The controler hurts my hand and i heard you can't sidestep in the PS2 version. I played it a while ago and found it really hard to get around.

Well I got myself PIII 733 Mhz with Geforce2MX and 256 PC133 SD-RAM but GTAIII running okay at 640*480*16 resolution..
About ur system I think it is someting to do with the VC or the RAM..
By the way, try updating some drivers to see if it helps
