AGP and PCI Video Cards

I have a quick question concerning Video Cards. Is it possible to use a PCI 3D Accelerator Card with an AGP Video Card? This is probably a dumb question for you Techies, but I'm not that PC smart! Thanks for any help.

Yes you can have a PCI graphics card installed along with an AGP card. This is only beneficial for the extra monitor connections, if you want to use 2 or more monitors. It will not increase your game performance. HTH

Make sure to check out the incompatibilities!! Not only from card-to-card, but also OS to card-to-card!! Not all cards work with each other, or play well with the OS and each other.

If tou really want to connect to monitors, I would just get a AGP card with two monitor outputs just to avoid some of the problems that may occur with using both a PCI card and an AGP card

Are we talking about a PCI *video card* or a PCI *3D accelerator* like a Voodoo 2? If it's a Voodoo accelerator, that's not a video card and it connects to the video card with a passthrough cable. It would only be useful if you need Glide support for certain games and your AGP card is not a Voodoo.

GLC...........This is what I have. I'm running a Dell Dimension Pentium III running at 863 MHz w/192 mb Ram. OS is Windows XP Professional. The installed video card (AGP) is the basic Intel(r) 82810E Graphics Controller. Needless to say, I can't play many of the newer PC games on this machine. A friend gave me a Diamond Monster 3D II PCI Accelerator card. What I need to know, will this do me any good as far as playing games or am I out of luck? I'm trying to save up for a new graphics card, but you know how that goes. I'm not even sure this PC will handle a newer Graphics Card. Thanks for your help.

I think you are going to have a problem finding an XP driver for it - otherwise it should work.

That board only has PCI slots, so you aren't going to be able to find a really decent upgrade video card for it anyway - a GF4 MX is about the best you can do and they aren't particularly cheap in PCI. The 810 graphics are pretty bad for games, the Monster will help if you can find a driver.
