Confused about agp voltages

With newer motherboards I've noticed the agp voltage is 1.5v,at the same time I see many agp cards are rated at 3.3v.
Will the 3.3v cards work in the 1.5v agp socket?
Is there agp voltage settings in bios?
Was considering putting an ATI 9000 on a Nvidia2 motherboard, but the card says 3.3v and the agp on the motherboard says 1.5v.
What's up with all that?

The 9000 should be backwards compatible.

glc, if the card is meant to run at 3.3 v and the board says 1.5v.how does the card work.I'm still confused.
Is it the card will work at 1.5v or does the motherboard know it's a 3.3v card and supplies the added voltage or do you change it in bios?

Hi Alfie,

It's the other way 'round. Some mobos support Both 3.3 and 1.5 so you can use either. If the mobo is a 1.5 only, it will not run a 3.3 card.

According to this chart, the ATI Radeon 9000 is AGP 2.0 with both 1.5V and 3.3V, so you won't have any problems. Only the older ATI Rage and 3dfx cards are 3.3V only.

so if a card runs on an older mobo, but the card itself is fairly recent, it will still run on a newer mobo????????

Thank you for your insight, but it's still confusing,I now see that the card will run at either voltage, but how is a user to determine what works with what?
Is there a cut off point as far as video cards,as I'm sure not all manufacturers have a list like ATI's?
Or is it that one should look for agp 2.0 compliance?

I believe that AGP 2.0 is the key.

my motherboard says that it cannot run a 3.3v card full stop or it may cause serious damage to the motherboard and/or components
