XBox Games

So, I broke down and decided to delve back into the console arena. I replaced my beloved 8-bit Nintendo with an XBox (I have been away for a while).

So, I am looking for some good games. Sony seems to have a crap load. I am starting to wonder if I should have gotten a PS2 instead. Anyway, suggestions?

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

O yeah Demo, you should have got PS2. I have a PS2, a few friends that have XBOX, they never use it, they only have halo, time splitters2, and splinter cell, and they have had them for well over 2 years. Its a great system, very powerful, but they just have stupid games, only a few are actually worth playing. Where as on PS2, the games are seemingly endless...Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry2, Tekken: T.T, MGS:2, a slew of fighting games, with endless variety...not to mention you can play PS1 games on PS2 so if you feel like playing a classic you can just pop it in. If at all possible I would recommend taking it back and getting a ps2, I think you will be much happier, but if you cant I would say get Time Splitters2, Splinter Cell, Halo is pretty old but if you dont care I would get that, Dead or Alive is visually stunning, those are my top picks...If you tell me what kind of games you like I could probably recommend a few really good ones

H.T.H.

People will be flinging into the Xbox craze because there will be an abbundance of new games coming out for Xbox. I personally have a PS2 and can't wait to see the look on the Xbox owner's faces when the PS3 comes out in 2005.

Although that is quite a long time away, the Xbox 2 will probably be released in 2004, which is why Sony is planning to release in 2005. They want to amaze people how much the PS3 will blow the Xbox away.

That was part of my concern. Will games for the XBox pick up? It has only been out for 1.5 years, but still, they should have more games developed than what they have. Plus, the PS2 has more of the types of games I am interested in, like RPGs.
But, I think I will still look into returning it.

For RPG's, Devil May Cry is a must! It is an unbelievable game...The Bouncer is another really good one, MGS:2SOL,
They have a new Resident Evil game comming out soon...Devil may cry 2, dead to rights, dynasty warrors 3, the getaway...those are some of the great new games that have recently been released or are comming out, dmc1, the bouncer, and mgs2 they are already out, if you can get a refund or something I would recommend it... great thing about PS's is even with PS3 you will be able to play ps1, and ps2 games on it, so when it comes out you score maybe 50-100 bucks for you ps2 and just keep the games, thats what I did with my PS1

You must also remember that PS and PS2 have been out a lot longer, and is now on a solid market foundation. XBox on the other hand, it is new, and while it is being sold, it isn't blowing people away. It is just now coming down in price, but I think that games for it will continue to come out. I think also, that programming for a much faster processor is in some ways difficult. At this point and time however, until more games come out, I am not sure why the X-Box contains a 733 processor, the PS2 about 400, and I have a 1.6, and I still can't play any of the games that my friend with a X-Box can play, at least not as well...

Theres acually aton of great games for xbox . All the games i listed above are grade A ... and either Exclusive , better versions then ps2 , or online capable ... Most are all of the above.

If you have broadband theres no question whatsoever that xbox is the better choice.

I dont know how into audio video you are but xbox is the only system with dolby digital support and High definition compatible.
At there best Xbox obliterates sony.
IMO the only 2 games that sony has that are great and unavailable for xbox are grand theft auto and kingdom hearts.

Star wars knight of the old republic , star wars galaxies and phantasy star are being released soon. RPG titles you may want to look into.
Other notables are Brute force , Halo 2 , Castle Wolfenstein
And the grandaddy DOOM3 which as of now will be an XBOX console exclusive.

yeah but they dont have many good RPG's...I just dont think X-Box knows how to make games, if you look at PS2 and Nintendo, especially nintendo, its always been the games that save their butts...I love my ps2 and the games are awesome, but sometime I just got to play good old resident eveil one or 2, and goldeneye for n64, its a classic, army men sarges heroes, fun game, I cant htink of many of my n64 games now, but I know I loved playing their games, especially Mario, who didnt sped a year playing mario 64 huh? that game was a classic on its first day....Xbox has yet to come out with an outstanding titel...yeah their games may look a tad better than a ps2 or gamecube, but all their games are just rehashed versions of games we played on our N64's and PS's they have yet to come out with 1 awesome, self eveloped title. They just dont know how to make good games.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a good RPG on Xbox. Enclave is good but somewhat annoying for it's lack of save points (you either complete the mission or you die and start over). Blackstone looks like it will be awesome when it comes out.

BTW, Sauron, the reason you can't play Xbox or PS2 games on your PC as well is because game developers know EXACTLY what every PS2 or Xbox has in them, and exactly what that is capable of. PC software developers, on the other hand, have to write games the run on Win98, WinME, Win2k, WinXP, Apple OS, 100's of different video cards, different RAM amounts, different processor speeds, and so on and so forth. When you think of it that way, it's a wonder PC games work at all!

i'd recommend halo, nfl 2k3, and the rocky game.
don't listen to people that tell you you should've gotten a ps2. you made the best choice. xbox has better graphics, crisper sound, and is more versatile. plus, linking a bunch of them together for a big game is always great.

I heard a rumor that X-box (Microsoft) or ps2 might be buying out Sega...Is this true?

Well, being faster and looking nice does not amount to much if there are no games for it. All I see when I go to the stores are racks of PS2 games and a solitary rack of XBox games. I understand PS has been around longer, but that is not an excuse anymore. XBox should have had games in development since before it was released. And if it catches on, so what? Like someone else said, the XBox 2 will be out by then and my first gen will be old news. I do not care to be one of the poor saps who "made it famous".

As for what Jenni said, part was true. The PS2 and its emotion engine run on a 128 bit processor, I believe. So, you cannot compare your simple PC (and XBox for that matter) x86 architecture to it. But, the part of having to develop games for every card is wrong. That is what DirectX and OpenGL and other graphical APIs are for. You program for the API and the hardware supports the API. What is true, is that the consoles are highly specialized. They run on a much smaller, specialized instruction set.

I do not know what to think, anymore. All I can think is "if I had bought a PS2, I would not have run into this problem". I will get the receipt out and think it over.

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

Oh, I saw Shenmue II showcased by Microsoft once next to the MechAssault beta. No offense, but it seemed kinda silly. Now, when played next to MechAssault, I must admit that my eyes steered more towards the explosions, but the dialogue was inane and just embarassing. Perhaps it gets better, or you have to get into it, but from what I saw, I would not buy it.

Just my thoughts.

It's true that the PS2 has a lot more games, but how many of those are you actually gonna go out and buy? Face it, quantity doesn't mean that they are all good games!

And I love how fast games load/save from the HDD on the Xbox. It is many times faster than from the memory cards on the PS2.

It is not about buying, it is about selection. That single rack of XBox games is very disheartening considering what I blew on the machine. Even if I assume the probability of a game being good is the same for both systems, the PS2, with more games, has a larger expected number of good games than the XBox. That is how I view things.

I do like the harddrive feature, instead of those stupid memory cards. But all things have trade offs. Personally, I hate consoles. I do not know why I jumped back in, other than I hate companies who produce for consoles but not PC.

Maybe I will get both. And maybe I will not eat for another month.

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

What other games do you like besides RPG's?
Also do you have broadband ?

Im sorry but any game on xbox which anyone feel is a rehashed psx game needs to realize its that way for any system.

Theres only afew genres of games.
First person - XBOX dominates by a mile.

3rd person - Ps2 has the best one in GTA , XB has the second best on SPlinter Cel . Both have Metal gear but the XB version is better.

Sports - XB has the better and wider selection.

RPG - Im not into them . But people love the japanese style RPG If you like those PS2 has better. Non traditional RPG is XB.

Platform - Game cube beats all of them . Any system with mario and luigi is always going to beat everyone in the platform market.

Im not sure what store you went to but try EBWORLD.com for a better selection . Or software etc .

And HALO ,Splinter Cel and Ghost Recon are all outstanding games.
Im not sure what was meant by self developed. But Sony doesnt make any of its own games either. Both rely on 3rd party makers.

Halo along with GTA is the best game available for any console. It was made by Bungie which is owned by Microsoft.

Homer have you taken a look at the preview video ?

The graphics look so much sharper. There using a new method similar to what id will do for doom3 on XB. Its looks fantastic.

kingofootball, Sony and Microsoft do make their own games teamed with a developer(ATV Offraod Fury-Sony and Microsoft makes a Football game). but this debate will rage on. How can you say one is better than the other? It's all a matter of opinion.
And the only opinion that counts is the person who is buying the console. If you are unhappy with the X-Box, return it and get the PS2, or save up and buy the PS2 also, you can get them for $150 now.

Just make sure you are Happy with what you have. Or it will become a waste of money because you won't play it.

Also, pick up some gaming mags for the consoles so you can get an idea of what's coming out.

Well...I dont know about you guys, but Im an RPG'er myself, and I played Halo on a friend system, when Halo was brand new...I got tired of Halo in like10 mins...I think Medal of Honor Allied Assault was better...My friend even offered to sell me his Xbox system for like 140 when he bought a month previously...i didnt even have ps2 then...but i still knew that ps2 would have all of the xbox games and the xbox would only have like 1/4 of the games ps2 would have...regaurdless if the games are all award winning game of the year games, cause everones preference is different some of friends think tomb raider was a horrible games, I htought it was one of the best games I have ever played, bottom line is the unbelievable selection of the PS2...and X-box's little rack of games doesnt impress anyone

Tony your right they do but like you said its in conjunction with another developer.

Its not like sega and nintendo who had/have there own in house developers making killer apps.

AVX I guess for you it comes down to quantity over quality.

I dont purchase that many games . Maybe once every 2 months.
Although recently ive picked up about 5 due to xbox live.
Im not a big fan of games like snowboarding, surfing, off road racing ,and button smash action. PS2 is loaded with them .
My personal preference is FPS and sports titles.
Due to xbox live mech games and racing are included now. Im playing games i never would have touched before because i know im playing real people from across the globe.

Have you tried any of the RPGS on xbox ? Like i said there not traditional japanese style but theyre very good.

but the great thing about ps2 is you can have both, quality, and quantity, they have tons of gams, and a lot of them are really good...Metal Gear Solid and all of its other sister games, Devil May Cry 1 and 2, Red Faction 1 and 2, Demon Hunter, Tony Hawks pro skater 1,2, and 3, Final Fantasy 10, GTA3, Gran Turismo A-spec, Hit-man 1 and 2, god the list goes on man, forever and ever. The other thing that bothers me about the x-bow is that friggin mangled keyboard they call a controller, its like a N64, PS2, and Sega Saturn controller mutated into 1...I hated the damn thing...
