Radeon 8000 -Nvidia Ti4200
I have always had great results with Nvidia, and Im getting ready to build a modest gaming machine for a friend.
We have been looking at the Epox EP-8rda a very nice board, and I love epox-never had a problem with one. This board sports the Nforce 2 chipset. Question is the game card,is a Radeon 8000 series a good card? Better than the Ti4200?? We will be on her budgit and want to make the most of her money.any input will be appreciated. The board supports 8x graphics-it is backward compatable to 4x correct??TIA |

For a budget gaming machine, the 4200 will fit the bill nicely and I'd recommend it over the Radeon 8500. If you're looking for a better card than the 4200 then take a look at the Radeon 9500 Pro. It runs around $180, has 8x and DX9 support, and its benchmarks are around the Ti4600 in terms of performance. The 8x will run fine in a 4x and vice versa.

I'm also interested in this. I've been planning to get a Ti -4200 for some time, willing to pay around 150-160.
If the Radeon 9500 benchmarks close to the Ti-4600 and only cost 180-190, should I consider it? My primary and complete focus is gaming. I'm getting a shuttle motherboard with 8X AGP and I want to take full advantage of the 8X. What card should I get? Don't Radeons have combatability issues with some games? Is N-Vidia the most reliable choice for gamers? Thanks. |

If your primary and complete focus is gaming in that price range, I would go with the Nvidia.

I believe the Radeon jumped from 7500 to 9000,with the 8500 the only card in the middle.

Don't forget, if you have the right Radeon 9500, you can do a software tweak to near 9700 performance. I think.

Between the 8500 and the ti4200, I would go with the ti4200. I would also consider the 9500 as others have suggested. The 8500 is better than the 9000, and has been relabeled as a 9100.
