3D Mark crashes system

I'm just completing this build, and I;ve searched the forum to a degree. P4Pe mainboard 1002 BIOS, 2.4G P4 running @ 2.7 stable for the most part. ASUS V8420 128Mb graphics card. 384Mb RAM 333 DDR Audigy OEM sound card. The 3D Mark 2001, simply will not run, in fact it crashes the whole shebang. The game that came w/ the vid card, Aquanox will not run either, it locks the system. I've ran these 3D Marks before. What am I miissing?

Download the proggie and run it. Most likely you have faulty ram.

And stop overclocking the CPU until you have isolated the problem. Well, indeed, the overclock *can be* the problem.

Yea if it's crashing during a stable overclock I guess it isn't so stable afterall. Put it back to 2.4 ghz. If that fixes the crashing then you'll know it wasn't a stable overclock.

why do you need to overclock a 2.4?

I dont think you would really gain anythng noticeable,
ooh 1FPS more, well worth it ^_^

its definitely the ram cause i have mine at that right now (ram at 400) and its fine.. I could get it up to 3.0 before I get any probs running it as long as you don't overclock the ram too far...

Thanks all

This problem occurs whether the chip is OCd or not. Benchmark ran fine @ 144 bus speed 2.59G?, I don't remember. (144x18) my head hurts too much now. Indeed, stability is the goal, I'll be more than happy to run it @ stock speed, if that will resolve these issues. I believe its a W2K/DirectX prob or a HD/cable prob. when the benchmark locks, the HD clicks, like its just stuck, the HD activity LED stays lit. All the Sandra benchmarks run fine, even @ 2.7G
speed. I'll have to wait till tom. nite to figure it out, if I do. Thanks again.

i dont think there is anything noticeable to be gained runnning a 2.4 at 2.7 except maybe shotening the life of the components, as its FSB increase which ups everything

i did it because i wanted my ram to run at its full 400...no noticeable difference for the cpu speed but the ram speed will help alot in games.

If the hard drive clicks - you need to run manufacturers' diags on the hard drive, it may be defective.

You've helped me out in the past. Thanks. These 60G Maxtors I bought 7200 RPM, I got a real good deal on. They were new, but privately labeled. That makes me wonder. They click and lock up like this more than what I think is usual. I originally thought this was a hard drive issue, it seems as when the system needs to access the HD the stylus gets stuck or something. I don;t know. Thanks again.

Better backup your data ASAP.

Then take the HDs outta the case and run them outside. See if the clicking sound continues. If it does, RMA them.
