Can someone explain this fix?
Do I reinstall it whenever I update drivers? Can it be used on any video card or just NVidia ones? Will it cause monitor problems? I need a basic lesson on it's practical ins and outs as I've realized I take too much for granted. Thanks.

Lets say you set your monitor to 85 hertz in the diplay pannel setup. Then you load a gam or another program,, the display goes back to 60 hertz while playing until you return to the desktop screen. 60 Hertz make the screen hard on the eyes (jerky screen) while 85 hertz ups the refresh rate to make the screen stable and easer on the eyes.
yes you need to reinstall refresh rate every time you update the drivers set all scteens to 85hertz up to 1024x768. The ati video card software has that built in to the options screen, i'm not sure if nivida ever added this option in the option part or not. Hope this helps and not confuse you.... edge345 |

Yes it does help.
The description is exactly what's happening with a Ti4200 card. But I've also been asked to check another comp with a new radeon ( both comps have XP ) that's doing something similar. In that one the refresh rate is set to 85Hz but a little further investigating into smartgart shows that the display is set at 60Hz. Since the owner is getting headaches it's running at 60Hz. It's not just running at 60Hz in games but all the time. Would refreshforce work here as well? |

Wolfie,
Bookmarking that one now, thanks! I do have a question though. What does it overwrite that it's permanent? |

it worked on mine, but also locked me out of changing my refresh rate for good
on taking a closer look on the Nview display, thing, you know, graphics properties\setings\advanced\Nvidia Geforce(insert your card here) you can override all of the refresh rate settings to 85 if you want Last edited by Spyda; 02-13-2003 at 02:49 AM. |

Spyda,
Both these comps must hold a steady 85Hz refresh rate at 1027/768. It's optimum for their CRT monitors and their owners won't get eyestrain. The problem is that the usual settings won't keep it there. A little further reading showed it as a Windows 2000/XP problem. What a surprise ? Thanks for the info guys. |
