It depends what you're doing. It's not great. It's considered a geforce 2 with clothes on it. A geForce3 performs better.

No! Any MX card is a budget card and will be a bottle neck for slow downs, If you need a cheap video card buy the ati 9000 pro. or spend a little extra and get a gforce without the MX or the ati 9500 pro.

It depends what he's using it for. If he just does web browsing and office products, it's more than suitable.

The MX cards are fine for general use, they just don't game very well, they perform about like a high end GF2.

Relatively speaking (comparing the GeForce 4 MX to all that are currently available), it's just a smidge below average as far as video cards go. It's quite a capable gaming card as long as you don't play your games at resolutions of over 800 X 600. Also, with this card, you should keep your graphic detail levels somewhere in the middle or low end. If you turn them up to high, you'll start noticing skips or bad graphics.
If you had this card available to you about a year or a year and a half ago, it would have been all the rage. In my opinion, if you're looking for a good deal and are willing to give a little in the "eye candy" department, this card is ideal. If you can fork out a little more (around $120 - $150) you can get a GeForce 4 4200 and get probably twice as good performance as you would with any GeForce 4 MX.

I put a MX440 in a family build, and it runs almost any game smoothly at 1024x768. They're really not half-bad.
