Unhappy MMORPG experiences....

I admit to having a difficult time with Earth & Beyond. Though supposedly newbie friendly I'm finding it anything but.
What's been your experiences with these games?
What sort of character should a newbie avoid ( I think starting with a jenquai explorer was a mistake)?
I admit to being stumped by the in game chat system.
I was thinking it was just me till I found all the complaints about it on the games's website. It's definitly not newbie friendly.
If you had a rough start with this sort of game and finally figured it all out please tell me how.
I'm thinking about dumping the game but there must be someway to get past newbie frustration and make the game enjoyable.

hi pam

I have played several MMORPGs but not E&B. One thing you should keep in mind is that most of the MMORPGs do have a steep learning curve. There is just so much content to these games that it's just never easy to 'jump right in' to any MMORPG that you are new to, and that's whether you are experienced in online gaming or not.

I have played EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, and a few other of the big-name MMORPG's, and I recently decided to try out Asheron's Call 2. Even though I kind of knew what to expect as far as the general features of a MMORPG, I still had to spend alot of time learning the commands, learning the chat system, using the interface, not to mention the game-play itself.

What I suggest you do is just realize that these games aren't your average W-S-A-D and left click to fire your mouse type games. There is alot to learn, and you should spend time with the various fan websites and forums just soaking it all in, if you really want to get into the game. And that's just the way it is with MMORPGs these days. Ask questions on message boards, join newsgroups, use the help files, etc. Next thing you know, you'll be the one answering the questions.

Finally, do be aware that I make my comments from the standpoint of a general MMORPG-gamer, not someone who has actually played Earth & Beyond. It could be that the game is truly horrendous as far as the chat system, gameplay, and user interface. I really don't know. I only am saying that in general, these games do take time to learn and there is no way around that fact. Good luck!!
