Splinter Cell
I just picked up the PC version, and so far it's a pretty good game. However, it runs like a dog on my system!
P4 2.26GHz 1024MB PC-800 RDRAM Gainward GeForce4 Ti 4600 OC'ed Soundblaster Audigy Intel D850EMV2 With the resolution at 1280x1024, and all the details on 'Low', I get around 30FPS. I'd change the resolution, but anything under what I have it on makes the graphics look terrible. This is with the game patched to V1.1. Anyone else having this problem? |

Yeah I got the game....I can't set the graphics higher not because of the overall game performance but some bugs with the shadow..It gets flicker whenever setting it to high or medium detail.
Does v1.1 patch help to solve the problem? |

Yes, for the most part. What video card are you using? I still get some graphical glitches, even after I patched it. Mostly gates disappearing and stuff like that, but the shadow problem is fixed. How does it run on your system? What are your specs?

im running 1024x768 with graphics maxed on my PC, it runs super smooth, although i do get the shadow problem, sometimes they are nice though. ill try lowering the shadow detail and see if it improves it, i patched to 1.1 and it didnt really make a difference, and the patch is meant to sort out a glitch on a level where you stick a camera on a glass lift or something, i have heard from lots of people that the problem still arises and the only way around it is to do a level skip

Nevertheless, I'm pretty much addicted to the game. I love the CIA level; no killing allowed makes you really work on stealth.

Behind the bushes in the corner. There is a crawlspace that leads to a computer. Go into the square, and look around for the bushes, they're easy to find. I never thought about it, but I doubt that my RAM is to blame.

howcome it looks cack on anything below 1280?
mines on 1024 with settings @ high, and the detail is really good, I tried it at 1280 and there wasnt a noticeable difference. So i ramped it back down, as i thought it was just wasting power for such a negligible improvement. |

Sorry for late reply..here's my system specs. It runs average speed on my com...but sometimes it slows down to about 10-15fps and it looks jerky!!especially the part when you have to search for the technician for the suitcase.....(I think it's the rams fault) The patch didn't fix the graphic problem. It shows some rendering shadows error/gltches? or something just like that. AlienWare...How did u get rid of that shadow problem? Are u using other graphics card than GF4? |

Maybe you have windows update in the background gaying things up. Or possibly a virus scanner. either way, switch them off.

I think it's a problem with the GeForce4 chipset; I read the same in a review of the game. I think your only recourse is to turn the shadows down, at least that works for me! It ran really slow on that level for me as well.

the shadows are a bit jittery for me, but only sometimes, and when it does do it, its bearable.
and i changed the detail levels, and low is just as detailed as highest for me, absolutely no change, its wierd |

I think they should include radar for it.Like Metal Gear.
I always get spotted for unknown reason.....I hide in the dark..hide behind some objects and guest what?they can spot me ..coz I don't know their visions are heading....... Do ya guys think so? |

Hmmm, if you keep an eye on your Stealth Meter, you shouldn't be seen.

but would you have a stealth meter in real life? and the enemies are practiacally blind if you are about 15 ft.

The Stealth Meter only indicates how hidden you are in the shadows. I guess it's because, unlike real life, you really have no way of knowing that simply by the visuals.

Might be a gf4 problem. Runs good on my 8500 64mb at that same 1280 res but no where near low quality settings.

I'm upgrading to a Radeon 9700 Pro/9800 as soon as I raise the cash. I'll check back with you then.
