Question Counterstrike?

Hi,

I am curious about this game since I've heard of it on many sites. I would like to know what kind of requirements does my computer need to be able to play this game online at an acceptable level. I have DSL, but unfortunetly my other computer parts are not very up to date.

Thanks for the info.

Post your specs! The box for Half Life Recommends the following:

Pentium 166+
32megs of RAM
3d Accelerator card.

It doesnt take much to run Counter-Strike. I know guys who play it on old Celeron 500 systems without too much trouble. You may not be able to play at a high resolution but you should be able to play it fine. I play with a Geforce2 at 1024x768 and it runs without a problem.

Half life was aroung in the 56k world so your DSL should be fine.

Well yeah, I don't know if that 256 means a 256MB video card because currently my computer only has 6MB I beleive. That's why I was wondering wether it would be enough. Here are the rest of the specs:

- HP Pavilion 8750C
- 667 MHz
- 512MB RAM

Thanks for the info,

It was a GeForce 256 video card with 32 MB of DDR video memory. My computer had 256 MB of RAM. Your system looks like it will do fine. Go forth and kill.

EDIT: Oops, I thought you had posted earlier that you had a GeForce 2 video card. You will need a card that has aat least 32 mb of video RAM on it, preferably DDR RAM

Heh, I knew it was too good to be true.

Can I get a decent card nowadays for below $50 to meet the requirements for this game? If so any info as to where?

Thanks,

Your onboard video might run CS just fine. My brother used to run it on an Intel 810 onboard video, and it really wasn't all that bad. The basic old-school maps like prodigy, inferno, aztec, dust and dust2, cbble, vertigo, militia, and those shouldn't cause you any problems. Some of the newer maps like piranesi, chateau, havana and a couple of others might give you problems as they use higher res textures than the old maps.

hey guys.. in the last version of CS, it takes AT LEAST a 16mo vid card and 128mo ram and like a 500mhz processor.. CS is nothing compared to the old half-life. I have a 800 with a GF2 (yea HL at max res was at 100fps) but in cs 1.6 at max res I get like 25fps... the game is getting bigger.. but with the ati vid card it will be finE!

happy fraggin'

Ok,

Does this error message mean I need a better video card?

http://www.southfloridaimports.com/temp/video_card.gif

If so, how can I be sure that the card TimPoet reccomended for my price range will be compatible with my computer?

Help is again highly appreciated,

Then again,

I ran the "Analize My System" Program from their site (http://half-life.sierra.com/) and it said that my system is suffcient enough (although barely) for the game.

A little confused here,

it says that the resolution that you choose is too high for your video card. yes the problem IS your video card, and if you really want to play this game, buy another one.. and any other games will need a good video card at this time so.. .

Try running the game in direct3d instead of openGL.

I don't know if it's only for me, but I get 100fps in OpenGL, and maybe 10 in direct3d... HL isn't made to be in direct3d I think..

PC Noob, I played CS with the Radeon 7000 and a Celeron 400 Mhz cpu and it worked good. Do not fear, get it and go forth and conquer.

If you video card just doesent support the open gl mode, you have to change it the the software 3d setting witch is pretty crappy looking but not that bad.

upgrade your drivers and try it again. maybe it'll work for you, but I was playing before on a PIII 500mhz with 64mo and a Voodoo3 3000 16mo.. all was running fine at 1024, but since version 1.5 i'm getting 5fps on this system so.. I don't know, I hope for you it'll work fine!! it's an AWSOME game maybe goin to CPL one day
