9500 vs. 4600
Which would you choose? ATI 9500 (not pro) or Geforce 4 Ti 4600

The 9500 is on par with the GeForce4 Ti 4200 in terms of performance, so I'd rather have the Ti 4600. Here's a THG article about it, and although it doesn't include the 9500 in the benchmarking, you can still glean a fair amount of information about that card vs. the other cards by reading the article. http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...24/ati-01.html

It all depends on which model of the 9500 you got. If it was Red PCB version moddable to a 9700 I would go for that. Otherwise I would have to agree with Alienware. 4600 would beat out a plain 9500.

Newegg has the moddable version back. Hazydeth has it and OCed it past a Radeon 9700pro with the 4 extra mem pipelines enabled.
If the mod didn't work (I got the card and it didn't), I'm not sure which would be better. The Ti4600 is faster, but the Radeon 9500 has full DX9 support. I personally sold my 9500 and kept my ti4600.

I don't think I'd factor any "mods" into deciding which card is better.

I mean, he wants to know which card *out of the two* is better; sure, the 9700 Pro is better then the Ti 4600, but that's not what he's asking.

If he wants to get 9500 (non-pro0) He may as well get the one that he can Mod. Which therefore in essence makes it a better card...

Didnt work for me either. A 9500 pro is better than the Ti4600 though. Get that. No modding chances.... but hey the core in those is quite good still allowing you to get something for "free."
The 9500 pro is better in AA and aniso and is a dx9 part. It's just plain better. Might get a few more frames w/4600 and no quality enhancements. |

Just curious, what happens if the mod doesn't work? Do you have to RMA the card?

i would have thought that mod would certainly void the warranty, it involves soldering doesnt it?

No, you can do it without soldering. You can do a software mod. I will post the link to it when I get home.

Alienware_Dude, the mod not working doesnt require you to RMA the card. If it does not work, the card will simple continue to run at 9500speeds, and the extra memory pipelines will not function. I have only seen one instance that the card did not function properly, but a patch can fix it.

Slim.
ATI asked Sapphire nearly a month ago to take the board off the market. Also ATI has introduced several glitches into it's current and future drivers specifically designed to blue screen cards with that modification ( see my earlier post ). |

The only two places I can find that actually still have it are at allstar (which I already gave a link to) and newegg. I have a friend that got a moddable one on ebay too.

This is the best article I've found on it:http://duhvoodooman.com/9500mod/9500mod_1.htm
You want the red card with the L shaped memory that Sapphire used to put out. |
