Would this be possible: Set up a gaming server on an isolated network and take whatever is on each user's computer and display them all tiled from the server to a large screen/projector?

I don't know if it's possible or not, but it sure sounds cool!

That would be cool, but I'm sure if it was possible the framerate would drop pretty low.
I was at a lan where they projected the leader of a quake3 tourney.

Each tile/screen would have a low resolution in order to fit them together. You know, just enought to watch what's going on.
Whould there be any progs that would do this? I'm sure this idea has popped up before, but I have not seen it anywhere else. [edit]: The frame rate isn't a factor. The main thing is finding something that'll actually do it. Last edited by Force Flow; 03-21-2003 at 10:14 PM. |

I think the only way this could be done is by inputting each video source into a common place. Its more of an audio/visual problem than a computer problem. Sounds like a very neet project, if it gets off the ground please post the results.

I'm sure you could write a mod to do it in quake3. Not sure though. I'll look into it.

force_flow2002, what I intended was that you would have to use video cable from each computer to a media box, this would be something that intended for pure audio/visual systems not computers, I have not used one but they should exist. They probably are pretty expensive as well.
Here are just a few of the units I found http://www.rgb.com/Webpages/prodpgs/sv3000rt.html (12 inputs) http://www.rgb.com/Webpages/prodpgs/4view.html (4 inputs) http://www.rgb.com/Webpages/prodpgs/mwall.html (12 inputs, can display on an array of 2X2 screens) Argg just go here and pick any that you would like http://www.rgb.com/Webpages/prodcats/multinput.html http://www.ericosystems.com/video-ca...atcher-pci.htm (4 inputs, but this one is a pci card) http://www.direktronik.se/prod/i29-0020.pdf (up to 10 inputs) http://www.matrox.com/imaging/products/meteor2/home.cfm (up to 12 inputs, although I think it may just be a frame grabber) RenegadeKing suggestion of a mod would definately be the cheaper solution. http://mpgcms.blueyonder.co.uk/html/...osptourny.html (someinformation on multiview and other quake stuff) http://www.orangesmoothie.org/ (this is where you get your multiview goodness) |

Ok, after looking around a bit yesterday, I found the orangesmoothie mod, but didn't notice the multiview. After looking again I see it now. I'll install it and check it out and tell ya how it goes.

Go to the downloads section and download the latest version of the mod, it would probably be easier to just dive in and try to figure it out then by reading the orangesmoothie site, I thought it was a bit confusing as well to read but I found the key words of multiview and spectate.

do you mean have it so everyone plays at their own computer, and people can see what everyone is doing, or everyone is gonna use that projection to play?

Yes, everyone will be able to see what everyone else is playing, and no, they wil not be using the projection to play. They would still be using their monitors. The projection is so people can watch all (or most) of the players when they're not actually playing.
![]() Trent Steel, there's a slight problem, though. I don't have QIII yet. Do you know if the mod would work for JK2 since it's based on the QIII engine? |

No idea force_flow2002, but if you have return to castle wolfenstein you could try the version developed for that.

Haven't been able to get on my computer today, but I'll try to test it out tomorrow and see how it goes.
I highly doubt you will be able to use the mod on anything other than quakeIII, although if you learned a bit of quakeIII modding/scripting, I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to try and use the multiview code for use in a JK2 mod. That is if the source is available. |

Don't know a thing about QIII modding/scripting.
If it works, I may try to get into it.Btw, how are you testing a LAN multview with only one PC?

ive got an expensive solution.
heres what you need 1 BIG room. 'x' amount of computers 'x' amount of prjectors Blank white wall space for 'x' big prjections. Or on HUGE projection screen. Now that would be kicking. If space allows it each view could be like 8'x6'. haha that would be nasty *you would need to keep te lights out and have low powered lights near the keyboards for players to use, that way spectators can see the best. this would be for the insanely rich, or ..... well yeah just the insanely rich well if you do it this way make sure to post some pics some w/ people standing next to the projections for perspective. Maybe make it big enough so people in image are full size, that would RULE. oh yeah almost for got you would need a lan and games |

Ok, very cool. I tested it with my computer, my brother's computer, and had a friend join over the internet. I went into spectator mode and in the console, type in:
/viewadd (player name or player ID) for each player. Not sure if I can just type in one thing to add all the players or not. But it worked. Pretty sweet. |

And last one
I couldn't get anyone else to join, so I tried starting an internet server. A few people tried to join but apparently didn't have the mod so they got kicked out. |

Orange Smoothie. http://www.orangesmoothie.org/
In the console type: /viewadd (player name or player ID) for each player you want to view. |

The mod is Orange Smoothie for quake 3. Multi-view is just a feature of the mod.
