DirectX 9

I was wondering if I should install directX 9. I have downloaded the DirectX 9 redist. because it said it was for installation without internet access. I didn't want to be in the middle of installing it and lose my connection. Is this the version I should get? Will it create any problems in my gaming? I have 8.1 now I think.

Oh, and by the way, the reason I want to go to DX 9 is I've got the 3DMark '03 and want to run it but can't without the DX 9.

games are starting to ask for directX9 now, but 3DMark03 has been punished for its coding, the card makers have been slating it for not providing a real world view of things, and while nice to look at, the demos dont really do anything for games, as games use different pixel renderers, or something

i downloaded DX9 on dialup and it took about 45 mins to an hour, not long at all

I installed DX9 along with Splinter Cell. I can't say that it made any sort of difference.

Your 9700 is made to take full advantage of DX9's new shader technology. You'll see the benefits of DX9 more and more in the next few months.

Well yea guys, you won't see any or much of difference until games say, "Requires DirectX9 because it uses DirectX9 drivers". A TRUE DirectX9 game will come soon and thats when we can make the comparisons.

Ok I get what you all are saying, but on MS's download page there is more than one download for DX 9. Like I said I downloaded the one called DX 9_redist.exe. Can I assume they are all the same?
