Quake I Mouselook
Hi,
Any ideas how I can look around with my mouse automatically (without having to hold down / or whatever it is) in Quake 1? I have managed to do it in Quake 2 but it appears to need setting up here. Obviously it's annoying not to be able to get this to work Any ideas? Thanks

I don't know if this can be done in the original version of Quake 1, but if you use Tenebrae the mouse will work just like in modern games.

I thought it could but I haven't played it since a long time ago (when I used to use the arrow keys and PGUP PGDN to look 'around')
It took me a while to get used to WASD but it's great now (obviously) Jim |

You can do it and it's easy.
Simply open notepad and type: +mlook then save it as autoexec.cfg and put it in the Quake folder. |

OK Thanks I'll try that (I'll try typing it in the console first, see if it works)
As for Tenebrae, I have a TNTII so it doesn't work, looks really cool though so I might get a new graphics card, and if I do it'll be one of the first things I try Jim |

In that case, get the GLQuake patch. Not only does it look 100 times better, you can also bind "Mouse Look" to Mouse 2 and look around, up and down, 360 degrees.
I prefer GLQuake to Tenebrae. |

Thanks for that Mike, do you know where I can get it from. A google search brings up some weird sites (either Amiga, weird languages or MacOS versions)
Cheers Jim |

OK, downloaded now after a little wait. How do I get this mouselook thing to work? Do I need to bind it to a key or is there an option for "AutoMouseLook"?

By the way, if you're playing old Quake and can't play tenebrae, you should try GLQuake 1.13b. It has smooth model animation, colored fog, shadows and bumpmapping. Looks much better. http://www.operagost.com/downloads.html |

BeardedClem's the man. He's said it all.
I'll try that little cfg file when I next run Q. Bye the way, Jim, if you haven't already tried it, get the Ground Zero Mission Pack for Q2. It's as tough as old boots with some nice new weapons. A regular frag-fest. I've just finished playing it recently, after many years, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was certainly more fun than Unreal 11. |

So the +MLOOK in Autoexec.cfg will mean the mouse works just like in regular modern games and without having to hold down any keys?

I should have said put the aforementioned autoexec.cfg in the Quake\Id1 folder. I had a second instance in the quake folder too but that's cause I put in there by mistake and didn't delete it. Now that should definitely work. Try the glquake 1.13b version and see if you don't think its a big improvement. Your glquake could look really dark cause I heard that's what happened on tntII cards(you need an upgrade buddy!). I have a little app called idgamma and you can really mess with the colors and make it look good. http://www.homepages.mcb.net/greebo/...s.html#idgamma Last edited by BeardedClem; 04-03-2003 at 09:06 PM. |

What upgrade do you suggest?
I've got about £50/$80 to play with Jim |
