Half-Life + ATI

I just installed my ATI 9500 non-pro and modded it to 9800. well I'm not sure if that has to do with anything but in half-life mods I now get extremely low FPS and with my GF2 MX I can get 85. what's the problem?

Wow, I was pumped for an upgrade to a 9700Pro until now. I was hoping for a great upgrade from my Geforce 2 and now I am rethinking it. Is ATI putting out a batch of defective cards?

I think it's the drivers. the reason I bought the ATI was because they said they fixed the drivers

You are using D3D in Half Life correct? A friend of mine had problems w/CS and not having D3D enabled was the problem.

My ATI runs CS great. I get 90+ fps. Usually stays around 98-100 unless I'm in a big gun battle then it may drop to 80+

Great link Blakhart. I'll be glad to put my fears to rest when I see some posts on the Catalyst 3.3s fixing these problems.

Regardless of what it can be modded into, if the card doesnt perform to expectations in games, like LordofEchoSide is saying, it is not a great card. When the drivers fix the problems people are having, Ill retract my statement. Until then, ATI isnt top dog in my book.

Alaron, then it is the drivers you dislike (which i do too), not the card itself.

LordofEchoSide, is it the Saphire 9500 with the four pipelines? How much would you sell it for?

Well, when I say card I mean the whole thing, Card and Drivers. My basic point is, if the card isnt performing as expected, its not a great card to buy.

do you mean the so that it can be modded to the 9800? if so, yes it can. but I'm gonna wait for the 3.3 drivers (they say they're coming this month) and see if it fixes HL.

Sorry, perhaps I overgeneralized. They have had a consistent pattern of driver problems, I'm glad to hear of their recent successes.

Hope yall realize it's just a driver hack. Now a 9700 it might be, but a 9800, it will never be. That hack helps pretty much just 3dmark. If you were successful with the 9700, no checkerboards, Id tick with that rather than having problems. Your turning on pipes, they work, leave 'em. The 9800 thing is just weird.
