Yes MonkeyBlitch... I'm sure that card will do just fine... and no the FX 5200 isn't the new MX of the Nvidia world. It's also going to be very dependant upon your amount of system memory and processor speed. You'll need a fast rig no doubt, but any of the FX cards will handle the load paired with a good cpu and RAM. I've read of people playing a leaked Doom3 demo on a GeForce 4 MX440 and that thing is a DOG! If they can get any kind of framerates out of an MX 440, an FX should do very well.

the 5200 and 5200 Ultra are both replacemtns to the Geforce 4 MX series

a Ti4200 will do twice as good in all areas tested

and it is a brand new, VERY machine intensive game, the demo isnt the full featured game, is it..

all in all, the FX series isnt really all its cracked up to be, i thihnk they confused quite a few people with the names, as it makes the 5200 sound way better than the Ti4600
But, if you have a Ti4200, not even the 5600 is worth a look in yet

Thanks for the respons Tiretool, I also think it will work good with that FX card and a stick of 512 DDR SDRAM PC3200 with a XP 2200 cpu. I read that the FX 5200 is like a Radeon 9000 -9200 BUT it supports DirectX 9.0. So I think its a decent card and very well priced.

yeah any of the Geforce 4 ti's or the geforce FX's will run it fine im sure......and besides, Im sure the full game will probably have some better framerates then the alpha, thats why its called an alpha, hasnt been refined at all

On average, the 4200 does around 25% better than the 5200... not twice as well as you suggest spyda. And the only games the 5200 has even been benchmarked with aren't even using Direct X 9, which is what the 5200's strong points will show up on. So actually the benchmarks available on Tom's Hardware, Sharky Extreme, and all the other gazillion tech sites who are posting "benchmarks" are comparing apples (4200s) to oranges (5200s). When DirectX 9 games become available, and 4200s are benched alongside 5200s, you'll see that large gap become much smaller, or even go the other way (in the 5200's favor).

i was comparing my system with a 5200 and a 4200 in UT2003.
It was about a sixth better than my old MX
and with Doom 3 being the next system spec killer, i thought it would be a bad choice

along with all reviews and specs, benchmarks backing me up they dont seem like a good buy just now

but i see your point, sorry bout that,

I don't think so OEM_Guy, you just will have to play with a few less of the bells and whistles turned on. I'm sure they're not going to release a game that requires everyone to upgrade to the biggest and baddest video cards out there.

It wouldn't allow them to sell many copies of the game.

yea, so many potentially great games have been diluted to make way for lower end cards (im talkin bout the Radeon 7000s and Voodoos etc).
Oh well give it some time and we will be complaining about the Radeon 9800 PRO (oh wait, people already are!) and the Ti 5600 Ultra...

er, yea i already complained about them, seeing as the Ti4200 beats the 5600 Ultra marginally every time in all things i read, some people may think im wrong, but i still stand on the same grounds before that i dont think they are worth it

hehe, the only bad thing about the 5800Ultra is the aeroplane turbine that cools it

if they were cheaper, id definitely have one, and get the gainward FX watercooling system

and we are talking 128MB of 1Ghz ram here, id swap my system RAM, 512MB of 266 for 128MB of 1Ghz RAM, it would be sooo fast

I agree whole heartedly! The 4200 gives you so much more power for the price, it's a no brainer. I have the Gainward GF4 Ti 4200 Golden Sample 128Mb version and I have been extremely pleased with it! I won't upgrade until the next Nvidia chipset is unveiled. There's just no reason to at this time.

A few of my friends have put theirs builds on hold till Doom 3 comes out. I personnally am going to upgrade my vid card to 9500 or higher and get another 512 Ram just to make sure it runs nice.
