GTA VC Problem w/sound

So I just picked up Vice city. Let me tell you, It rocks. My problem is when I'm in the vechials I get no sound. Say I"m in a car and hit a lamp post, you hear the lamp post crash, but you don't hear any engine sound. Same goes for in FPS mode. You can hit someone hear them go ouch! but you can't hear your own steps or punches, or pain. Someone suggested, it might be my sound card. 1st off, its 8 months old. Second, I don't any problems with the sound in any other game. My mp3's all play well. and I swear if I get close to the speaker I think I can hear the cars engine reving, but it sounds far away. This could be my imagination. I'm hoping I hit a setting somewhere and its a quick fix I really don't want to buy a new sound card

thats the weird think though, I can run GTA III with no problems. I've got it running on the same system, at the same time. So either VC is running newer sound software, there's a setting I've missed somewhere, or my sound card is on the fritz.

If anyone cares, it was the sound card. Apparently, the Accoustic edge philips sound card I had sucks. Or more specificaly, philips did a half recall in the way of just not producing any more of them. I guess, the card couldn't handle the higher great direct x drivers. Oh well. I just had to drop $62 on the sound card I was going to buy in the first place before I bought the philips one. Well end of story.
