counter-strike problem

Ok when i play counter-strike sometimes ill have in the 100 ping area, when my bro(next room over) nvr gets above 25 in the same server.

So i went to my vid card setting and put the direct 3d all the way towards quality, i get good ping(nvr above 45) but the graphics dont look to good. Then, when i put the settings all the way towads performance the graphics are perfect, but i getlike 150 ping. I tried doing in between and all that but ones always bad(ping or quality). So, what should i do? I have the latest catalyst 3.4 drivers. Its a ati 9500 also.

It appears to be cpu limited as far as latency goes, indicated by decreasing image quality decreases ping time. Do you run a nic card or is it built into the mobo? What kind of network do you have?

If it's LAN, where you guys play togerther on the same server. It's most likely your computer. If you lag, it's because of your computer, not the server. Or sometimes, tiyr modem could be dying. Happens to me sometimes.

Check your in-game CS settings. Go into console, or open your config file (in your cstrike directory) and change the following:

rate 9999
cl_updaterate 35
cl_cmdrate 35

Could be that your brother's CS is configged properly and yours is not. If your rates are too low for your connection, it will cause unnecessary lag.
