More benchmark drama ;)

http://www.beyond3d.com/#news6222

Quote:
For the first time in 6 months, as a result of Futuremark's White Paper on May 23rd, 2003, Futuremark and NVIDIA have had detailed discussions regarding NVIDIA GPUs and Futuremark's 3DMark03 benchmark.

Futuremark now has a deeper understanding of the situation and NVIDIA's optimization strategy. In the light of this, Futuremark now states that NVIDIA's driver design is an application specific optimization and not a cheat.
Roughly translated:

NVida sicked their lawyers on us when we called them on cheating in a benchmark!

Quick someone take that statement back before they bankrupt us!

< /futuremark>

Thanks nVidia for taking it upon yourselves to destroy a benchmark company rather than take a little chink in your PR armor. We'll be looking forward to those "optimized" games you muscle your way into the development of in the future, honestly. Why will we be looking forward to them? They'll look much better for us on our ATI cards than they did for the people who developed them

Regardless, they will still have even worse image quality for the cheating. Jaggies is an nvid trademark, along with poor image quality, all in the name of speed.

I saw that with the Geforce 1 256 DDR, and never owned another one...

Lol, my next video card is going to be an ATi. I've had quite enough of nVidia's BS; both with their cards and with their attitude.

I've really been thinking about switching over to ATi for some time now. I guess this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Hard to beat a 9700, or a 9500 for that matter.

But think of how 'fast' the FX 5900 will be!

The 5900 is fast, but its still an nvid. I doubt if their image quality has improved.

Well, until ATI screws up this badly, I'm sticking with them for my video solutions.

Futuremark destroyed themselves by getting the very same companys who's products they support to pay them 100's of thousands of dollars. That is not a benchmark to be trusted by any means. And the about turn of futuremark is absolute proof of their bias.

Personally I have never used 3dmark, nor sandra, as synthetic benchmarks mean nothing anyway.

The minimum amount required to be a beta partner is $5000, AFAIK.

3DMark/3DMurk?

Can it get any worse for nVidia?

Don't forget though that ATI also cheated (last year?) when benchmarking with QIII with 3DMark. Also, someone else pointed out, benchmarks may not be that accurate for cross video card compairisons because of this.

Oh yah, sorry. I guess it should have pointed out that ATi "cheated", but nVidia "optimized".
