problem w/ Age of Empires 2 and Win XP?

I recently did a clean install of Windows XP Home on my machine. The installation went off without a hitch and I updated all of my drivers when I finished.(including my mobo's 4-in-1 and integrated sound drivers) Everything works fine, except my son is complaining that when he plays Age of Empires 2, the sound goes out after a while. He says it happens more when he plays single player than when he plays online. This doesn't happen with any other game or app we run. I should mention that when the sound goes out, it stays out and we have to reboot to get the sound back. I don't understand why this only happens with AOE2.

I've considered re-installing the game or re-installing the old sound drivers from the mobo setup disk. If anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears.

Re-Installing the game sounds like the ticket...

Just to make sure, did you try checking your volume controls after the sound dies?

Whne your reinstalling make sure all unnecessary programs are off, especially your anti-virus software.
