problem with homeworld

I started playing homeworld again, got pretty far into the levels, and then found a *big* problem with the gameplay. I can build a capital ship, but it never appears! I pay for construction, build it, but I never see or get to use it!

In the multi-player, I can build and launch capital ships, but not in the single player. Any ideas? I have gottne pretty far and do't want to be forced to start over... the game will be impossible(really really difficult) to finish if the biggest ship I can successfully is a "fighter".

I keep getting "borked" in Homeworld but there are "game files" that might get you around this.
What does the HW forum say ?
