Can't understand why 3d mark is low....

I still can not understand why my 3d mark scores are so low...I think it should be double of what i am receiving. I am scoring a 3,600...

System Specs:

1666 megahertz AMD Athlon XP
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., LTD 7DX 1.x
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 6.00 PG 04/11/2002

512 MB PC-2100 RAM

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 [Display adapter]

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 (build 2600)

What do you guys think?

Which 3dmark are you running? 2001 or 2003? The 2003 scores are much lower then what people recieved in 2001, because it is an updated and harsher test.

Are you using the Detonator FX drivers or the Microsoft ones?

That is probably a pretty good score for the 5200. They are slower than a mx440 card. Have you gone to d3d properties in video and set it to best performance? That may bump the numbers a bit. The card is your bottleneck in that system.

Yes, the card is the reason you have what you consider to be a low score. Those cards are barely above tnt2 performance.
Sure they do dx9, but any dx9 game will play about 1 fps with it. In online gaming, the 5200 is the card you want the other guy to have... kinda like an uzi vs a mp5 gunfight, you want the other guy to have the uzi. Poor sights, heavy recoil (for a 9mm), etc... well, ok, so a mac10 would be an even better example than the uzi.

Tom's tests show that the FX5200 scored above 9000 points in 3D mark 01, 3,600 is a bad score even for a FX5200 because people have been getting 10k with that card. What resolution are you running the benchmark at?

EDIT: Hey make sure vsync is off in the detonator control panel, vsync should always be off when benchmarking.
