my sister -n- law has my old a7n266-e. has a xp1900 in it and a geforce 4400. ok the problem is when she's playing games the computer will just shut down the game and go to desktop. and the video will be washed out. she will also get a disk error at start up sometimes. tried changing the drive, the ddr, new vid divers, reformatting, last thing is the vid card. think that might be the problem? would direct x 9 do anything if its a non compliant card? any ideas? thanks

What os is she using? Power supply up to the job? Does she use kazaa? Have you checked the mem for errors? Is the mem set too hi as far as timings go? Does she have the av running while gaming? Doubt if dx9 will do this, but it can't be ruled out for certain. Does the cpu get too hot?
What about the vid card? Overclocked, is it? ![]() Trade a barely used 9500pro for the 4400?????

Could be the room temp you know.... my old HP would shut off while playing even Starcraft when the room temperature felt like hot, but whe I opened a window and turned the furnace off (This was winter time BTW) it would never shut off...

Does she have the typical teenager deal going:
MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, AIM, all that crap running at the same time? When gaming, it is best to have nothing running but the game, not even a antiviral. 2D games might not be so hard on a comp, what games does she play? Another thought is does she have enough mem? If you run the mem asynchronously, run it synch'd and see if that helps. Asynch teh suxors. |
