Rise of Nations has been highly rated by reviewers (9.3 on gamespot; 88 on Firingsquad). I've never played it though.

I got Rise of Nations a while ago. I didn't get a huge sense of it because my computer sort of died shortly after I got it. That being said, what I did play of it was awesome. I've played many RTS' in the past and this is for sure the best so far. The 'Random Map' mode is amazing, and the 'Conquer the World' mode is also very interesting. Graphically, it's pretty good, but the main emphasis is on gameplay. The learning curve isn't too big, especially if you have experience with the AOE series, as the engine is rather similar. If you are in to those sorts of games, then I would highly reccomend it.

Heyyyyy At least they are finally entering the PC world.

Well I downloaded the trial a couple of days ago, and it really reminds me more of Empire Earth which, personally, was a pain in the ass in more ways then one. But I do like some of the new ideas.

I think you meant Empire Earth. While they are similar, I found the gameplay much more like AOE and overall, far better than Empire Earth.

I got to play Rise of Nations at MicroCenter. They usually have a couple computers set up w/games to play, which I think is really nice. I stood and played the Rise of Nations for about 20 minutes. The game seemed pretty cool, but very time consuming. This is a game that will keep you busy for a long time. I almost bought it, but I didn't think I'd have the time to really play it. If you are really into that kind of games and have plenty of spare time go for it!

Er yes, sorry I did mean Empire Earth (I only bought it because it looked really good, the little people with muskets creating a cloud ) Well I spend a lot of time with Age of Empires. So to be honest, this wouldn't be a major time factor with summer on my hands and all...gotta do something But I will agree that its more like AOE gameplay and less like Empire Earth. Thanks all

I just got the demo in the Aug. MaxPC.
I wasn't going to bother, but you've made me curious enough to install it.

Yeah Ive heard. Is it any different than the xbox version? Other than Im assuming multiplayer differences.... Personally it got a bit repetitive... on single player or.. co-op. play on the missions...

I have no idea about the details, except its probably going to have updated weapons and so on, missions, ect. It will probably be multi player, I will be very disappointed if its not.

I'm about to find out if first strike capability can be put to practical use.
Not bad for someone who's awful at RTS games.
I'm not sure if I'd buy it ( see above problem ) but the game is good!

Well actually, I like the design, especially for those just learning the ropes, for instance, if you were playing a solo game, and you hit easiest, defensive, the computer(s) will stay in their land, and not bother you; sooo you have a excellent chance of building a massive army (about 9-10 barracks is a great idea, if you got the supply of food, metal and iron to go with it.) I did get the game, and yes it really rules...

Rise of Nations is an excellent game. I love it. I have some problems though as I am about to describe in detail in another thread. It does not keep going.

I've been playing the demo to death because I can't afford to buy it right now. Great game though. It had stability issues at first. The game would lock up after a few minutes of play. I updated my video drivers and everything is fine now. This is the most fun I've had with an RTS since I played Dune II 10 years ago!

I was just looking for recommendations on whether or not to buy this game. I guess my answer is yes!

Anyone know who has the best price on Rise of Nations?

Rise of Nations deserves all 9.3 points it recieved from gamespot. Some interesting ideas went into this game to make as good as it is. Definitly a game worth buying..
