The fun for me, has always been trying to tweak a mid-range system to get the last ounce of performance out of it.

Interesting specs. I just hope my processor isn't a bottle neck. I dont really want to upgrade yet.

good god, those are some high optimum specs, and you just know that y that, you will need at least the best graphics card and like a 3.4Ghz CPU to play it really nice

I still don't believe it until its released. Why would they compare a GeForce 3 TI with a ATI 9600 Pro? GeForce 4 TI A TI 4400/4600 with a ATI 9700/Pro... thats not right! And a GeForce 5800FX/5900FX with a ATI 9800 Pro?

Numbers sometimes count higher then the actual performance, Monkey.

When is this game going to be released?

I really do not see what is so bloody fascinating about this game. It is like Star Wars One. All the kids who missed out on the first generation of films were thoroughly disillusioned by visions of granduer.

Doom is gonna be the samething. It will sell to the generational gap who thinks the tri-quel will do to first person shooters what its predecessors did.

It will be exactly like "Phantom Menace"; in fact, ID has even admitted DoomIII also has no plot. I wish Lucas had guts enough to do that.

Well..to be honest, many who played Doom 1, will be the ones playing Doom 3. There were 601,773 copies sold by ID and that doesn't even come close to the copies sold by non retail stores (info comes from PCGAMER May 2003) So, yeah, there is a huge generation of gamers who did play Doom, and are now eagerly waiting the sequel to one of the best and actually ancestor to 1st person shooting and FPS genres.

Yeah, D3 and HL2 arn't about good storylines, they're about computer games moving to the next level, becoming more and more like reality. The graphics are much better than any previous game and as TechSupport said, the ability to use/move almost every item in the game is a huge advancement!

90% of FPS gameplay is over the internet or a network anyways, its not supposed to be about plot. (I just made that 90% up, its got to be around there somewhere)

I am not sure how those numbers link Doom I buyers with Doom III buyers, but I can assure you, there is a reason video games are marketed towards youth. I really do not think the people who played Doom I are the major buying force behind Doom III. They might have moved on in the last ten years and might not play video games. Mine and ID's bets are still on the current youth.

Do people not remember the past or do they refuse to learn from it?
Everyone knows of a game which looked absolutely beautiful but had no gameplay. Compare how many games are built on the Quake III engine and how many of those were a success.

As for netplay, there is no plot persay, but think about why you play. What are the biggest online games? Everquest, CounterStrike, BattleField 1942. What is the common thread? Teamwork.

Anyone who pitches game ideas knows what and why gamers play. Doom III though, is riding on pure name brand recognition and screenshots which are even more easily doctored than benchmarks, but those are the only things people care about anymore.

Don't get me wrong, Doom III will sell just as Star Wars I sold. But I also think Doom III will suck, just as Star Wars I sucked.

I love stirring up trouble.

Unreal 2 was disappointing? The reviews i read said it was good but to have it play smooth you need like a 2GHz cpu.

Your statements have no basis in reality. Average age of computer gamers is highest. Above consoles and all that. There target is anyone into computer gaming. I dont think they give a crap what age you are. I will buy it just to make my computer sweat for once. It's about time.

Sit outside your local EB and prove me wrong

And if your parents (or anyones parents for that matter) get Doom III for themselves, be sure to let me know.

And, seriously though ironically, I think Unreal 2 flopped because it was easy to beat and had a weak plot. Go figure.

Maybe its for their kids.
Ever think of that?

But that is not my point. You missed it. You have to think about these things.

Between the lines, in very small text (perhaps it is not showing up in your browser) I said "compare the number of kids to adults in EB at any given time (excluding clerks silly)".

As for the average age of a computer gamer being higher than that of console games, all I have to say is, "of course". What is easier for a six year old: Downloading the current DirectX9\OpenGL\Glide runtimes, updating soundcard drivers, and then installing and configuring a game on the computer OR turning on a Playstation2?

Are you arguing for the sake of arguing (and/or posts) or do you really think games (and/or cigarettes) are not targeted towards kids? I would equally admire both responses.

I'm not arguing with you, and I can think thank you very much. The adults I see are around 25 or so, yes the majority are kids who play games. I don't think the creators of Doom 3 care who they buy their games they just need to sell.

Yes, I believe the majority of computer gamers are in the 18 - 29 age group.

Console systems like Xbox have a younger group.
