CS Question
Well, I've had CS for a while, but it gives me so many problems i gave up on it. At first i thought it was my dialup that was hurting me. Then i realized my specs were really really low with the comp i'm on now. 256 ram old GForce card. So maybe, i thought it wasn't the dialup... Now i am building a new computer, and i'm wondering if it will run well. I'm going to have the AIW 9800 and a gig of ram, but still dialup.
So do you think CS will run? Or will the dialup make me lag so much it's not worth installing? What do you think? How many out there play CS with Dialup? |

Hey, I think it will run fine on dialup. Counter-Strike/Half-Life was made 4 to years ago when dialup was the main internet connection. A couple buddies of mine played CS on dialup fine. Now, I'm not going to say that you won't get some lag sometimes, because you will. If you're in a server with all broadband users, you'll probably not be havin' much fun. But, I still think that's a game if you're on dialup, you shouldn't have any problems.

If you can find a Dial Up player server, you should be all right. If you connect to servers with Cable and DSL users, you wont stand a chance. No matter how powerful your system is you will lag with Dial Up. I recommend having a good modem, USR 2977, to be sure you have the fastest speed possible.

I want DSL but unfortunately i live out in the boonies. The only alternative is getting service through my sattelite which is suppose to have DSL like speed. But it cost a sh!tload of money.

Dial up play in CS is fine - I run CS on dialup, using a USR external modem, and am good enough to be able to play for a clan, being the only 56k player amongst the members.
Bear in mind, that playing on dialup does give you a little deficit in timing, but find servers that will give you a good steady ping - my clan server pings me at 120 so I'm not too badly affected. The other thing to learn is a different style of play, rather than going gung ho all out head on, try and be Mr Sneak - if you can get the drop on a player, most of the time you'll win out. Oh and don't go for satellite if you want to go for online gaming - the pings are worse than 56k as there's the time delay between transmission from the satellite to your home station. Good for downloads, bad for gaming. Last edited by colbell; 08-13-2003 at 02:20 AM. |

120 ping oon dialup???? wow thats good
i had atleast 210 ping and the server T3 and it was just a block away from my house... and ya CS isnt as bad on the dialup thing as UT and Quake but you'll certainly be handicapped while playing with highspeed users. i see your location as houston... how can you not have broadband there? |
