System lag while gaming

When I'm playing Battlefield 1942 over LAN with just one other person, on the network, my system lags. The more computer/AI opponents I play against the worst it lags. Especailly when I'm near the other people. I have the graphics turned down to the lowest settings and this has no effect.

My question, is there some tweaking I need to do in Windows? Or?
My system more than meets the game requirments.

Dell
P4 2000
512 PC2100
GeForce 2 Ultra 64mb
2 WD 40gb HDs
OS Dual boot Win98 & Win2K

Any suggestions?

With the demand that your game has on the video card, I bet it's the gf2 being the bottleneck. You need a gf4ti or a 95/6/7/8/900 card to play with any smooth frames. The rest of your system looks fine for games.

With LAN do you mean hooked up directly to other PCs? or online? If its direct hookup then yes Id blame the card like Blackhart said.

By LAN I mean it's hooked to another PC via a router. On the internet I download stuff @ 125kb/s on average. What I don't understand is that online the game plays fine. Even when there is 64 people on the same server. It lags worse off line, I know that sounds dumb. Someone told me that offline play is more demanding on my CPU because of the AI and that the CPU has to keep track of all the computer soldiers.

I would say it is your video card. 64 MB just isnt enough for some games right now. And I think Battlefield 1942 falls under that catagory because it is pretty new. Also what HD are you running it from and how much space do you have open? And do you have a lot of programs running in the background in Windows? That will really effect the way your games and other programs run! Lemme know! :-)
