Battlefield 1942 locks up

Hey guys, just built a new system (specs below) and we are having a hard time running Battlefield 1942 both online and off. It keeps locking up our system. We went out and downloaded the enormous patch for this thing and updated the drivers to our Radeon card but it is still locking up. Any suggestions?

Anything else running in the background while playing? Your system should have no problems with the game. I play it perfectly with my sig/system. does it still do it when ya lower the resolutions and reduce the graphics? The patch is 1.45 right.

Thanks Propaine! We have been shutting everything down before trying to play the game everytime. I did do some research on the EA Games site this afternoon. Sounds like the game has some issues with sound cards. We are only using the intergrated sound on the MOBO for now so maybe that is our problem. Wasn't planning to get a new sound card for him until X-mas. Made some suggested adjustments to the DirectX Sound settings and so far we haven't locked up again. Definitely the longest playing time without a lock-up. Haven't tried to play on-line yet though. Currently running at 1024X768. Haven't tried making any adjustments to the display. What settings do you recommend?

I use 800x600x32 display . Options all on high. distance on 100%. texture 80%. Video on High. I think thoses are standard once the game is installed. dropping a few settings will probly improve performance.

cheers

Actually that vid card can handle 1280x960 if you want, that's what I run it at .

If it's crashing in the menus, sound problem. If it's crashing when loading a map, could be something else.

ATI cards and BF1942 don't get along at 16 bit color, I do know that much, so whatever else you change leave it at 32.

May sound funny but i think its the radeon 9500 series, mine locks up at least once a day. Im a bf1942 junkie also.

[EDIT] 1.45 patch is supposed to be really loaded with bugs, so i havent even dled it yet, waiting for the fix, tho its getting harder to find servers.

Actually haven't had it lock up yet since we made the adjustments to the direct X sound. Think it had something to do with the intergrated sound rather than the graphics card. But yet to try the online gaming yet.
