Video Card Problem
Hello, whenever I play BF1942, my Video Card start having problems. A few minutes after I start playing the screen will start to flicker black, and as I get closer to other moving objects.. other people.. ect.. it just goes black. When I go out to the games main menu it comes back, or if i go out to windows, it comes back, but as soon as i go back into the game.. black. I downloaded the latest driver for my video card (GeForce4 Ti-4200 64mb). That didn't help, i turned down the graphics quality and texture quality in the game down further than they alreay were, i know that they weren't too high for my vc because i was still getting 70-80 fps. Another problem is that I tried to go into my BIOS to de-overclock my computer, and it will only let me "set password" or "save and exit" or "exit without saving" HELP ME PLEASE!! AHHH!

If you use some form of program that modifies the way that Windows XP works with Refresh rates this would be the source of the trouble.
The latest patch will allow you to change your in game refresh rate, however you would have to edit a game configuration file. If you wish to do so, please follow these steps below: First install the latest patch from www.battlefield1942.com Once done, Go to: My computer, then C drive, then Program Files, EA GAMES, Battlefield 1942, then the Mods\bf1942 folder then the Settings folder. In that folder you will see a file called VideoDefault.con. You will want to double click this file to open it. If it asks you what Program to use (in Windows XP you will first want to choose "Display a list of programs for me to choose from), choose WordPad. In there you will see a line with this command: renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 Change the 0 to a 1 and then Save the file. This will allow refresh rates above 60 Hz in the game. Try the game again. If it still crashes you may need to completely uninstall any Refresh Rate modifying programs such as ForceRefresh |

Is this just happening with Battlefield or are you having problems with any other 3D games or 2D applications?
What brand of graphics card and PSU? Do you have jumpers on the mobo that allow you to manually change the FSB so you can stop overclocking? You might also try reducing the Ram settings via the jumpers, if you have set them aggressively. Do you have a CPU or case fans that allow you to adjust the speed. If so, try putting them on full speed. Last edited by mike breck; 09-10-2003 at 03:00 AM. |
